Which is your favorite world map?
Modern Mercator

Winkel tripel projection

Mollweide projection

Robinson projection

Cassini-projection

Dymaxion projection

Equirectangular projection

Upside Down

Gall-Peters projection

I know that the Peters projection was touted on the West Wing, but just a quick glance at a globe tells me that it's not even close to reality. I'm partial to the Robinson because National Geographic gave me one for being a subscriber.

1. I love the upside down maps
I send them to all the grade-school age kids I know. Get their little minds thinking along totally different channels. :hi:

3. I dunno why all other world maps have north to the up
There ain't no north in outer space, and it's entirely possible that if you were approaching Earth from, say, my winter home on Tralfamadore, that's the view you'd get.

5. It's well-known that the inhabitants of the planet Skyron
In the Galaxy of Andromeda were confused by the maps they'd acquired and this is why they landed initially in Scotland, where they concocted their devilish scheme of turning people into Scotsmen so they could win at Wimbleton.

It would have been a disaster if it hadn't been for Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brainsample and just goes to show you how important good map skills are. :P

7. Yes, but...
Smolensk is 200 miles west of Minsk, 200 miles north of Kursk and 1,500 miles west of Omsk.

4. I agree
Maps influence the way we perceive the world. For example, I grew up with this map in school:

Not only does it chop a continent in two, it duplicates entire countries (India), just so that N. America can remain top-center. :wtf:

Of course, the most accurate map of the world is:

All flat maps introduce errors and distortions.

2. Robinson Projection
Has the best combo of minimal distortion and aesthetic.
