Major Thrift Store Scoring Today!!!!!!!
DayDreaminHippie68 and I went thrifting today.

At store one: we both ended up with a sweet pair of brown corduroys...which I am curently wearing...

At store two; I got two skirts..one was cotton ans greenish with some tribal patterning on it and the other was a pinkish corduroy knee length with lace ruffle at the bottom. Also i got a free blue beaded necklace...

I am thrilled to death!

All this was for less than $12

I am amazed...

What's your best find?

1. Brand new tag-on Liz Claiborne skirt for $3 (this was several years
ago) and a cobalt blue covered pressed glass candy dish for $2

Those are my favorites off the top of my head...I shop the thrift stores religiously.
I have a list of things I regularly look for:

Glass insulators
Old aqua glass canning jars
Old wooden alphabet blocks
Wooden yardsticks, the older the better (I have one that has a 2-digit phone number on it :-) )
Globes
Vintage Christmas ornaments and elves (the little felt-dressed ones that have their hands around their knees are my favorites. They look like Snap Crackle and Pop from the Rice Krispy boxes; I think they're from the '50s or so)
Anything cobalt glass

And I'm always looking for bowling balls, broken dishes, and other objects for mosaics. :-)

22. do you put mosaic on bowling balls?
Never thought of that, but it could make a cool garden ornament!

23. Yes, I do! I just did one in two shades of blue, from old broken
Fiesta Ware dishes. I also used a broken souvenir mug from Washington D.C in cobalt blue and white; my girls had given it to me for Christmas some years ago, and it fell and was cracked, so I saved it and broke it some more and used that too *lol* It turned out really well. I haven't put it outside yet, because I haven't sealed the grout yet. I used the inside of the bottom of an old bowling ball bag for a workstand for it; I did it in about four sections over four or five nights. Glue, let dry; grout, let dry; then turn and work on an adjacent bit.
It was fun! The next one I do I am going to drill through the thumb hole and make into a fountain. :hi:

2. I've gotten so many scores over the years, but probably the best
Edited on Fri May-30-08 09:48 PM by AZDemDist6
was a black mouton coat with heavy satin lining and an ermine collar circa 1940 for $25 in perfect condition

I've had it over 30 years and it's still as beautiful and warm as the day I bought it.

edit to add wiki link for mouton

4. $22 for an Armani suit.
Obviously not for me, but for that price, I bought it and found it a home with my kid sister's boyfriend.

I also got a $500 high end imported vacuum for $6.

5. rock!
rock on! :headbang:

My best brown corduroys EVAH came from a thrift store. Now they're so thin I'm scared to wear them but I found a green pair that's exactly the same only newer.. probably 20 years old instead of 40.

Last week I got a toy great white shark! for like a dollar! I used it to hassle my cat:

Thrift stores are the only place I shop anymore, it takes longer but it's worth it.

8. I have found wife a bunch, but prob best was an Anne Taylor blouse for $1 ...
that she gets tons of raves over.

This is a really good point. If one is interested in simplification, getting off the credit card junkie lifestyle, there is much good to be found in thrift shops.

16. Got a bunch of old Elvis 45's at a Goodwill store
including some EP's that had been out of print since the 50's. I happened to be working at the store at the time, and when they came in, I said "don't even bother putting those in the rack. I'm buying all of them".

They were $1.99 each (less whatever employee discount I had). Considerably more than the average 45" was there, but definitely a bargain by record collector standards.

20. Are old Elvis "Sun Records" still considered "collectible" these days?
I have some old 45's of Elvis's First..."That's Alright Mama" and others. I figured Elvis wasn't really hot for collectibles, anymore. I don't have the jackets because they were passed on to me...but they are his earliest Sun Records and I've just hung on to them.

24. Vintage emerald-green velvet dress from the '60s for $12
Boat neck, tulip skirt, satin bow at the back. Looked like something from Jackie O's closet. I wore it to a winter semiformal at college. I LOVED that dress.

appraised for 250.00 without the stand a week later.

I still have it.

Half my house came from Goodwills located in ritzy part of towns.

2nd best find was wrought iron baker rack with 4 thick beveled glass shelves, perfect condition, for 20.00/

Glazier told me each glass shelf was worth 30 -40 bucks.
