has to be one of the most discomfort-inducing things I've ever looked at. Really. For some reason nothing else on this thread gets to me at all, but that one makes me want to throw up and curl up into the fetal position simultaneously. What's scary is that I'm not even exaggerating. Having to look at scaly things on someone's fingertips could be my downfall! haha

The statue was displayed for eighteen months because that's the maximum time statues are allowed to be displayed on the temporary plinth. When Trafalgar Square was first laid out, it contained a number of empty plinths, so that future war heroes or statesmen could be commemorated there. Over the years, all the plinths were filled except one. Since warmongers and politicians are no longer considered worthy of being enshrined in marble, nobody could quite figure out what to do with the final plinth. After much debate, it was decided to use it to showcase temporary works of national importance.
