Planning wedding #2!! SOS!!
Now that California has legalized same sex marriage, I am faced with the planning wedding #2.

We already had a wedding in 2001 in Las Vegas. But now we need to do the legal part.

My husband is driving me nuts.

My suggestion was simple. Get the licenses as soon as possible after the 30 days when they start issuing them. Get one of our friend Tina to take one of those "Minister for a day" things and she can marry is in the back yard of our house, then go to brunch. OH NO!! He starts in with "well you should have your mom and step-dad there. And my SISTER has to be there. And don't you think some of your friends at work would feel left out?" I was about ready to file for divorce BEFORE we got married.

We are having a house warming part at the end of the month. So it's not like we aren't going to see a bunch of our friends.

The thing is that 99% of the people I wanted at our wedding WERE at our wedding in 2001. The only exception was my step-dad who was recovering from surgery and my dad and step-mom (there WERE in Vegas, but my dad was too sick and they had to go home).

My suggestion? We fly to SF get married at City Hall. MAYBE have my step-mom meet us there since she missed our 1st wedding.

GGRRRRRRRR!

Suggestions?

Congrats. :loveya:

5. it's useless to fight this.
Give him the wedding he wants and save yourself from arguing about it for the next 20 years. :)

Could you push your house warming party to a later date and combine that with a wedding?

9. The house warming is set, so we can't change it.
I think we are looking at the SF City Hall thing.

Which was always MY dream to do.

6. Fly to SF, get legal and then come back home and have a big ol' reception/party
Edited on Fri May-16-08 11:17 AM by terrya
For what my opinion is worth.

If you don't want to invite me, that's fine.

11. I think that's what we're gonna do.
The house warming will be also a pre-wedding reception.

I'm playing the "getting married in SF City Hall has always been my dream" card.

He got his house.

I get my SF civil wedding.

7. Congrats!!!
My suggestion - get the legal part OVER with. You know its going to be standing room only in the clerk's office. To have an entourage accompany you past the steps would be unfair to the other couples.

But what seems to be a popular wedding photo is the pic of the two of you marching down the steps (it's a beautiful building) hand in hand after the deed is done.

You just want to get this in BEFORE the Phelps' of the world bring to a halt. You know they will try.

are all on one plane and the plane crashes, killing all on board.

I'd be sorry for the pilot and co-pilot on the plane. I'd have a big party for everyone else.

Edit, yes this will be deleted. I don't fucking care.

12. Well let's just hope it a private plane
with one of his asshole supporters flying it.

Crashes into that volcano I had Chi-Chi use during the Nevada caucuses, no mess to clean up.

13. I'm sorry I posted that in your thread
I know the bigots are already trying to fight this. I was reading about it at Yahoo news.

I don't want to be reminded of that.

This is a time to celebrate a huge victory so that good folks like you and your partner, and MonkeyFunk and his boyfriend, and all of the other gay and lesbian couples in California can FINALLY get their commitments and their loving relationships legally recognized.

15. Can I come to the reception and dance the Chicken Dance?
Because you KNOW it ain't really a reception until they play the Chicken Dance and the Hokey Poky.

On second thought, maybe that is a kinda Illinois/Midwestern thing. You folks out there on the coast might do stuff differently. I dunno if I can do anything other than those two dances except maybe a polka or two...

Amyhow, have the kind of wedding you two can feel good about and screw worrying about everybody else and how they will feel. If you want to go to City Hall, then by gawd go to City Hall and know that our happiness goes with you.

Laura

BUT they will start issuing licenses until around June 15th and we have the party set in stone for the end of this month.

21. Ronny, I'm gonna make this real simple for you: Weddings=Gifts
And let's face it, you would have done the wedding a bit more of the traditional way if you were actually legally able to so so back in 2001.

So now that California is coming to the 21st century I say you have yourself a great wedding, get yourself registered somewhere for some nice (but reasonibly priced gifts) and invite a few DUers to join in the celebration.

You deserve the very best!
