Well, it turns out my building has a rooftop antenna
Wish I had known this MONTHS ago!!!! :banghead:

I'be been struggling with rabbit ears all this time! If I was lucky, I got a snowy NBC and Fox!!! So I got my HDTV-to-SDTV coupons last week and bought the boxes yesterday and plugged them in. And still didn't get the Big Four networks. I got the "qudo" all-kids-cartoon channel and the all-God channel.

Yayyyy... :sarcasm:

So I bought amplified rabbit ears for 30 bucks. Now I got CW, too. Yayyyy... :sarcasm:

So I look around my apartment, really thinking now. Hmmm... my building is probably about 50 years old or so. I wonder if it still has a rooftop antenna?

I find a coax plug in one corner of the living room.

I find another coax plug in another corner of the living room, next to the phone jack.

Hmmmm.

I get a long cable, plug it in, and bingo!

ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, CW, FortyFive (a local independent station), and two PBS channels! Crystal-clear!!!

So folks, get your converter boxes if you don't have cable. It's worth it!

Now I can tape Letterman at night! And Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, and American Dad and watch them when my kid goes to bed!

:woohoo: :woohoo:

And I can bring the amplified antenna back and save $30!

1. Are the stations already broadcasting in digital?
What does the converter box do at this point, if not?

*confused*

3. Yes, they are
That is why it is so wonderful!

When I plugged the wire right from the wall to my TV, they came in decent but not great. When I plugged it into my digital converter, it was crystal-clear!

And it turns out the NBC affiliate here also transmits an all-weather-all-the-time channel, so that's an added bonus.

2. Why DO the sucky channels always come in clearer(on my antenna)??
One of life's great mysteries, I guess.:-(
