yeah, that's it. there were video cameras now and then, the funniest one was a sailor who was assertive enough to come down to the tank deck on the ship before we left and ask if he could ride with us to the beach and back. I was the crewchief, and didn't mind. I think my words were "Yeah, fuck it, dude let's go. You don't puke much do ya?". I asked the LT over the radio, the LT just wanted to make sure this guy signed the ops roster, so we strapped him into a life jacket, gave him the hatch where the grunt commander usually goes *it was an empty operations, no passengers*, told him to sit down and not touch anything. That guy was loving it. Heh. Good times. Driving a 26 ton tank off the back of a ship into 12 foot ocean swells. Then popping the hatches and catching a wave towards the beach.

Yeah. I guess I do miss that now and then. Of course, these days those same amphib tanks are used in Iraq, I can't even imagine the hell that must be. Hot, stinking, hot, vulnerable to lots of weapons, hot.

I'd like this part:

But, no way would I want to be in the Persian Gulf. Claustrophobically hot is OK (I am a Southerner, afterall ;-) ) but in this conflict? No. Way. In. Hell.
