1. OK that made me cry.
Someone who knows about this; will his voice change next year?

I like what everyone had to say to him too. Thanks.

3. It will change eventually. Possibly anytime in the next couple of years.
But that doesn't mean that he won't still have a beautiful voice after it settles into its "adultness." It's a very pure voice, without manipulation, so it well could become a very beautiful adult voice.

13. American Idol pisses me off cuz they won't let anybody do classical stuff.
They get cut out of the contestants before they even get to the show.

In England, they've had Paul Potts singing "Nessun dorma" from Turandot (The Pavarotti National Anthem) and he won and got a recording contract.

Second example is Andrew Johnston singing Pie Jesu.

They could have people this good on American Idol if they wouldn't filter out the people who sing classical music.

:grr: :banghead:

21. Well I understand why
they're trying to "discover" a pop star. It's not just a generic talent show.

Each show has a theme - how do you mix classical and pop? Make everybody sing a requiem? It wouldn't work.

I guess "America's Got Talent" would allow a good classical singer - they've already had a ventriloquist win.

14. I hope he keeps his talent when his voice changes.
I went from a nice soprano to a mediocre bass when mine changed. :\

16. That's just a guarantee that his voice won't change... his body will still continue to mature in
other ways though. Real castratos don't sound like boy sopranos any more than full-grown women do. In fact, that small vocal cords in the larger body tend to have a different tone than either a child's voice or a woman's voice. Not to mention that castrato voice training was in a slightly different direction. They were often used for very dramatic works, so the castrati were trained to sing with a lot of vibrato and an almost sobbing sound in their tone half the time.

There's actually a recording of one of the last living castrati floating around the internet somewhere, and although he's a bit past his prime you can definitely hear a difference between how his voice sounds and how an operatic woman's voice of a similar age would sound. Unfortunately the site I found it on didn't have an mp3, just a little flash music player with that embedded in it and I didn't know how to save it from that. And I don't have it bookmarked.

17. I have a CD
of Moreschi - I've heard him. He was well past his prime when that was recorded.

As for castrating the boy, it might not save his voice - Simon's just doing it for shits and giggles.

but we have about 30 min, or so, to do this.

Can we put this on the Greatest Page?

26. I felt like I was being manipulated
This is deja vu all over again. Reminds me of the mousey cell phone salesmen who had the awesome Opera voice, from 2 seasons ago. I am not taking away from the kid's terrific talent, but I can't help but feel he was coached to play up the bully angle.

27. I'm absolutely certain this guy is bullied. The one that sang opera was awful in comparison.
But, yeah, you're probably being manipulated a bit. It's TeeVee after all.
