2. What qualifies for senior citizen where you are?
My husband and I happily went and applied for our lifetime free fishing license this year (we're 60). Woo-hoo. Visions of home-made smoked salmon dancing in my head. Also we won't have to pay property taxes on the first $150,000 value of our home after we turn 65. Getting old does have its advantages. :)

3. He's 65 (Hello Medicare!)
He'll be applying for the lifetime hunting license this fall and just got 'grandfathered' into his monthly dues at his golf club. He's been enjoying the 'Senior' discounts at movies/restaurants/hotels for a few years now (some start at 55 and some at 60) but the Medicare card REALLY made it official.

(I won't let him retire, though, we have a 19 year-old at home still!)

4. I have mixed feelings about the Medicare card...
Edited on Tue Apr-15-08 01:12 PM by Blue_In_AK
(we still have a ways to go for that one). On the one hand, it will be nice not to have the $600 deducted from my husband's pension check every month for health insurance, but on the other hand, there are very, very few doctors here who accept Medicare patients. Luckily we're healthy, but I do have to see the doc twice a year to get my thyroid levels checked and renew my Synthroid prescription. I haven't asked her yet if she's going to stop seeing me when I turn 65. I hope not. Maybe we'll have universal health care by then.

5. We're having that discussion right now (actually it's more of a fight)
He was at $450 a month for insurance and w/Medicare part B it's down to $89 a month. I really want a PPO (which also covers Rx) and he doesn't b/c he's heard how many providers WON'T accept PPOs so he just wants the Rx. x( It's so damn confusing. I may just call around to our local hospitals/doctors and see who accepts the PPO we're looking at. Still, even w/the PPO and Rx and Part B his insurance bill will be $300 a month LESS than at 64!

7. It seems like they could make things so much simpler
if they tried. I'm going to be watching Frontline tonight about how other countries handle health care. It'll probably infuriate me. Our system is pathetic.

6. I am getting there.
I have been enjoying my 50 plus discount where ever I can find it.

The only problem I have is that I don't look my age so I am getting carded again.

Congrats on your big birthday.

8. Yep, he loves 'getting carded'
Maybe I should buy him one of those 'Where the hell's my senior discount' t-shirts.
