14. I think Zeppelin reinvented everything they touched...

...credits notwithstanding. The latter issue has been worked out in civil courts, as far as I know, with them eventually giving credit where it's due? Where it can be proven, more to the point? Hell, I'd much rather listen to Zeppelin transmogrifying an old blues standard than hear Clapton (or a million other boring imitators) dutifully giving it the ol' British try.

I don't think Page ever pulled off anything as brilliant as the long version of "Spoonful" off Wheels of Fire.

11. I used to think otherwise as well.

thanks to classic rock radio's bludgeoning of the masses with heavy doses of Led. I even swore them off a couple times in my life. Then one day, I was listening to "No Quarter," really listening deeply. That's when I realized that John Paul Jones was the unheralded genius of Led Zeppelin. He miked an electric piano through a Leslie speaker and made gold.

The rest were certainly no slouches but one of the things that sets Zepp above their millions of imitators are the arrangement and production, which was mostly Jones.

10. "Houses of the Holy" of course!

...The song, left off the album of the same name, totally re-ignites the following album, PG, and I'm ultimately glad it's where it is. This is one of the most funkified and groovin' Zep tracks ever. Some may consider it an oddity-- it was certainly never played live-- but for me it's a very crunchy Zep groove wherein Bonzo, JPJ and Page really get into the pure pleasure of playing, whilst Plant lays a light but mysterious vocal and lyric on top of it. One of my favorite Zep tunes.
