We're under a tornado watch. All the warning areas are south of us so far. Hope everyone in the Ft. Smith area has battened down the hatches...coz here it comes, baby! :scared:

16. But at least
the weekends have been pretty nice rather than the other way around as it usually is. Gotta look for that silver lining. We got enough clouds that there should be one at least! :hi:

24. Sounded worse than I meant it...
I put on my Wellies and tromped around the pasture in the rain. Pond is overflowing (thats good), but my cedar logging job is rained out for at least a week (thats bad). I get my new tractor friday, (that's good). It will be too wet to use it (thats bad). The old yin and yang of life.

38. Not too bad. Got home and the loggers were out making good progress...
Did you read in the Tulsa paper of the new monastery being built near Tahlequah by the Benedictines? My cedar logs are going to be milled into tongue and groove panelling for the interior. That's pretty cool.

39. No, I didn't.
That's very cool that you will be involved in the building of the new monastery. I love the Benedictines. They are very peace minded people. When I chaired the Season for Nonviolence committee a few years ago, we had our Interfaith Celebration at Monte Cassino's PAC and the sisters there were just lovely. The Mother Superior (sorry, her name escapes me at the time) spoke at the Celebration, as well.

17. I'm somewhat attracted to storms
The rain is lashing out outside. The thunder strikes, so intense. Of course, in the face of such conditions, you must remain cautious, still, if you approach it properly, for me anyway, there is a certain attraction to what's going on around you.

21. Have you ever chased them?
Gawd, I want to do that someday.

I TOTALLY understand your feelings on storms. It's not a lack of respect for victims, because the storm is an unfeeling act of nature, and what I or anyone else thinks about it won't determine whether it harms anyone. There's nothing cool about a destroyed house. But the phenomenon itself, the sheer power, is just... wow.

29. Husband and I are both
ham radio operators and we used to do storm spotting for the National Weather Service out of Tulsa. Most of the time it's boring, boring, boring. And then it gets more boring.

Those videos make spotting and chasing look so exciting but they're condensed down and don't show the hours of just sitting around in the rain desperately trying to see something in the lightning flashes.

33. I hate being stuck in an HP supercell, and that's all I've ever seen
I've never lived in the Plains, and LP storms are not that common elsewhere, I don't think.

Besides it being incredibly dangerous if you're on the road from that very lack of visibility, there's not much to see in a rainy thunderstorm, as you pointed out.

I dunno. I've been very close to two tornadoes in my life, but I get a rush out of the other storm phenomena as well, so I still think I'd enjoy it just for that.

32. No, never
For me it's about the atmosphere created. There's something captivating about it all.

Where we live, Australia. Or more specifically, south of Melbourne. We're fortunate in that all our lives we've escaped some of the harsher elements the rest of the world has been exposed to. No floods, although quite near to us, to the east of this state, a number of our fellow citizens aren't so lucky. None of the fiercest wind storms, either. The harshest storm for us was strong wind gusts, I believe over 100 km/h, which blew metal sheeting in our backyard. Could of been dodgy!

There's an eerie beauty about this image, I think.

26. The hail broke 2 windows in my bedroom and trashed the back storm door.
I'll be cleaning up broken glass tomorrow. Nobody hurt, but the yard looks like it has snowed. The hail we had here was near golf ball size. It sounded like it was going to come through the roof. The weatherman says another supercell is approaching. It's been wild tonight.
