Need some resume advice...
I need to rewrite my resume and I have a couple of questions.

What is the best way to write a resume when a person has been a stay-at-home mom for almost ten years? What is a good objective for the top of a resume?

It's been a while since I've worked so any help would be appreciated.

1. I might be wrong ..
but I would probably make a resume for each job that I am applying for and have the objective be about the job that you are applying for at the moment. I hope that I helped.

2. My opinion....
1) Use your cover letter, rather than your resume, to embellish on your personal circumstances.

2) Create a resume that concentrates on your skills, rather than your work history. Don't ignore your past work history, but write your resume so it is secondary to your skills. Put your work history chronologically towards the bottom.

3) No more than one page for your resume. Sharp, short, concise sentences. Make it easy to read quickly.

4) Instead of an "objective", put a "summary" first. Use your cover letter to state your "objective". Your "summary", again, should concentrate on your skills. Something like..."Motivated, hard-working mother ready to re-enter the work force. Multi-skilled individual with excellent problem solving capabilities. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to create and monitor budgets. Great software skills including: MS word and MS Excel".

This is just an example, but you get the gist. good luck.

3. Thank You!
I have my first interview tomorrow afternoon and this is very helpful. I'm nervous, too. :scared: Haven't interviewed for a job in so long.

4. Good luck....
Relaxed smile with eye contact...be forthright and honest...interviewers usually are good bullshit detectors lol. Be proud of your accomplishments as a mother, and let that feeling come through during your interview.

Interviews are not magic. In fact, while the person is talking to you, they are thinking three things:

1) Can she do the job?

2) Will she be here everyday?

3) Will she fit in?

Good luck!

Relax and smile and be warm!

5. In many ways, resume are over-rated...
Item #1 on their list is, "Can this person do the job" and that's really all a resume can do for you.

Items #2 and #3 are going to be conveyed by your personality in the interview and are nearly as important (cumulatively) as Item #1 -- sometimes even more so, depending on the job.
