I have a lot of milk I have to use up before it goes bad, and I've already made two boxes of pudding...

1. Yes - should be no problem to substitute milk for water.

3. Try using beer instead
Cheaper than milk and bakes up nice...

Ok, don't listen to me at all. I suck at cooking unless it is on a grill.

4. I could, but the milk is about to go bad (it expires tomorrow) and I
HATE drinking the stuff, so I'm trying to get rid of it. I made two boxes of pudding and a coffee cake and I'll be using some more for the glaze for the cake and I'm going to bake the box cake mix I have and freeze that, and I hope that will use it all up! Because I'm out of Weetabix :-)

10. Milk should be fine for at least a few days after the expiration date - as long as it smells OK and
isn't curdled, you're totally fine.

Also, FWIW, some recipes *call* for sour milk. Plenty of old-timey type recipes, from back in the days before big electric refrigerators, call for it.

5. Yeppers, it should work fine.
Just about any liquid, as long as it's not extremely acidic, should work fine.

7. Oh, now you've given me an idea! I have leftover chicken I was going
to use in some kind of casserole with rice and veggies; I'll make a white sauce with some parmesan or something for it...
Thanks! :hi:

12. I did actually use applesauce in the coffee cake I made; turned out great!
But I was able to use up a lot of the milk as well, so that was good!

15. Yes, that substitution will work fine. What you can't do is substitute water for milk.
But milk for water is fine in the cake - will help make it a little richer, though not a lot.

Someone else mentioned soup - that's a good use of the milk. Make a chowder or nice creamy asparagus, which is now in season and yummy.
