Flapper costume ideas
I've just been invited to a speakeasy themed fund raiser for the local humane society (their annual "furball" this year themed "Sit, Stay and Speak(easy)" how's that for cute?) Anyway, I've got about 10 hours notice here, very limited finances and a shitty imagination. I'm going to wear a simple black dress but I need 30's type accessory ideas. Help!!

1. OK.
Simple black dress - good start.

Hmm.... What else? A headband works... or a simple but elegant scarf to hold your hair back. Jewelry.... pearls. A pearl necklace or earrings always look good.

Like most things, it's all attitude. Pretend you are a young woman who just discovered her sexual power. And USE IT!

My 2 cents,

Khash.

2. Long string of pearls, like down to the waist
T-strap "Mary Jane" shoes. Perhaps a feather boa and turban.

4. Once you figure this out, please take pictures!
That sounds like an awesome theme for a fundraiser. And I love "furball." :)

6. here are some fast and cheap ideas

Stretch headband in black (if one with sequins, even better), add a feather to the side, and wear around top of head.

Add a filmy longish scarf to your just-above-hipbone area, tie in a puffy knot and let trail slightly to the side, wear a lace-eged slip under you dress that is slightly longer than dress hem so the lace shows, thigh-high stockings rolled down to just below the knee (really! It's what they did!), strappy dress shoes.

Add a feather boa to wear, make a fake long cigarette holder, long bead necklace, dangly earrings, add glovelets to wear on you arms (see pic below), rouge up your cheeks, wear dark red fingernail polish and lipstick, and try to look like these gals!

7. thanks for the ideas everyone :)
I went to the costume shop and came out spending just 10 bucks! They actually had some flapper costumes and a really cool Great Gatsby costume (I particularly loved the hat that came with that) but I didn't have that kind of scratch and it's more fun assembling it myself anyway. I'll be sure to get pictures and you can tell me if I spent my $10 wisely :-P

Also, a couple of makeup questions because I really don't wear it all that often. I'm thinking I should wear a red or dark lip color but how should I do my eyes? I have some false eyelashes but I've never tried them before. Would it look too cheesy if I draw on a fake mole?

9. You'll be a tomato with a classy chassis in those glad rags
You'll be the berries, the cat's pajamas, the bee's knees, the snake's hips. You'll be a bearcat, doll.

Just be careful you don't get spifflicated on the giggle water, because...

So don't forget, folks
That's what you get, folks
For makin' whoopie

Razzmatazz!

:D
