"The Party's Over" is a MUST see DVD about sElection 2000!

I rented it last night and was blown away by the trip back to 2000. Philip Seymour Hoffman takes us to both Conventions as well as their accompanying protests AND the Shadow Convention. There are interviews, sometimes chillingly prescient, with Chomsky, Michael Moore, Eddie Vedder, Willie Nelson, Nader, Activists of all stripes, the list goes on.

Money, money, money. One theme that kept coming up was money, how much and who had it. Oil, oil, oil. Corrupted reporters. Corporately owned Biased Mass Media. Globalisation and outsourced jobs. WTO, GATT, Welfare "Reform"...

Then of course it ends in Florida...Chads, the Brooks Brother's Miami "Riot" to stop the recount, Palm Beachers voting mistakenly for Buchanan, interviews (AT THE TIME IT WAS HAPPENING) with poll workers who were perplexed by the odd numbers of "purged" voters that had to be turned away from voting, I swear to god I had tears in my eyes.

Has anyone else seen it yet? If not DO IT!

4. I get so angry when I think about it that I get migraines

Hadn't had them for a decade, then that night happened, I had them for months thereafter. Still get them if I get arguing too much about the Selection or Bush in general.

Most unfair thing ever pulled on me, on most middle class white folks! Made me appreciate the struggles black men and women have had to endure in order to exercise their franchise!

Don't think I can watch the movie, either, though I'm sure glad it is out there. Perhaps the most maddening part is that lots of folks don't even understand why it pissed us off!

BTW, I haven't heard Kerry talking about getting over 2000 lately. I think he understands fairly well that lots of Democratic voters (and Independents and even people who don't vote much) HAVE been trying to get over it, but day after day the misadministration keeps rubbing their noses in the shit with extremist policies being rammed down their throats. They are mad as hell now, and Kerry can do very well for himself if he effectively taps in to that indignant anger.

I look forward to him kicking Bush all over some debate venue, reminding people just what a dumbass the supreme court forced upon them!
