Things that you liked as a kid, which now seem cheesy, but you still enjoy nonetheless

Okay, everyone's been there. There were things--TV shows, movies, books, cartoons, food--that growing up as a kid you simply thought were the best things ever. You thought in your juvenile mind these things were the pinnacle of great art, culture and entertainment.

Flash forward 20-30 years, and those same things you loved as a kid....well, they look old. Outdated. Cheesy. Half of you is left wondering what in the hell you saw in it.

But, the other half of you still loves it, if only for the nostalgia. You still get a warm, fuzzy feeling when you see it. If it is a TV show or a movie, you can't help but watch it and think back to when you were a kid and that sense of amazement and enjoyment you once got from it.

I guess I have a couple. For example, the TV show "Perfect Strangers". To the average observer, it was your typical lame 1980s sitcom. But I remember back to Friday nights sitting in front of the TV wondering what crazy adventure Cousin Larry and Balki would get into that week.

Also, the cartoon strip Garfield. Which has about 3 tired running jokes repeated ad naseum. But I remember as a kid whenever I went to the book store, the one thing I would always get was the collection of Garfield comic strips. And I remember watching the TV show ever Saturday morning. So even if my mind says let it go, Garfield just isn't very good anymore, my heart still loves that fat orange cat who eats lasagna and sleeps all day. And I will defend the strip to the death just for that purpose against anyone who bad mouths it.

1. Comic books.

I still like them, though I know no one else my age who reads them. But dammit, I enjoy them!
Plus now that I'm older and richer, I can buy the hardcover, all-in-one fancy-pantsy editions. :D

I love comics too... and now I can buy all the ones I couldn't as a kid - and the NICE archival quality plastic protector covers to keep 'em fresh!

I *really* love: JTHM(Johnny the Homicidal Maniac), Squee, Dark Horse comics in general, TMNT(the Morford and Lenardon classics from the mid-to-late 80s), and X-men.

And Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderalla, starring Lesley Ann Warren, which I have on video and loved, loved, LOVED as a kid -- and still do.

I never thought of it as a lame sitcom then or now -I wish they'd show reruns of it in my country. It was one of my favorite television shows of all time

7. The old Dr. Who.

Cheesiness was its charm. This new Dr. Who just doesn't cut it on any level.

11. I wasn't a big speed racer fan, but

I remember watching it, and what some stand-up comedian said once about it.

Something to the point that :"when those guys who Speed races go over the cliff, they go over the cliff down onto the sharp pointy rocks and burn!"

10. Cartoons...

I didn't get to watch t.v. at my house, but I would sometimes go home with my friends after school and get to watch Thundercats, Ducktales, and Masters of the Universe. Then, I started staying with other relatives, and I got to have a t.v. in my room... I'd get ready to go to school while watching TMNT (the old-school eighties and ninties one!). THAT WAS SOOOOO AWESOME!

My hubby bought me the classic TMNT and some of the new ones on DVD and I love watching em still... the animation sucks, but hey, I love the Turtles.

Oh... and I still love lunchboxes - I have my Star Trek TNG and TMNT ones.

Recently saw some episodes on DVD. The show is painful to watch now but I still enjoy Farrah.
