United Airlines Allows Only 1 Checked Bag For Coach Passengers
United Airlines announced that it would allow customers who purchase nonrefundable domestic economy tickets and who do not have status in Mileage Plus or Star Alliance just one free checked bag. Passengers can check a second bag for a $25 service fee. For all customers, the cost to check up to four additional bags will be $100 per bag. Previous charges ranged from $85-$125 per bag. The cost to check items that require special handling because they are large, overweight or fragile will now be either $100 or $200, depending on the item. United's most frequent flyers -- customers who have Premier status or higher in Mileage Plus, or Silver status or higher with Star Alliance -- will continue to be able to check two bags for free. For more information, visit www.united.com/baggage.

6. My incredibly resourceful wife
visits her mother three or four times a year (via plane.) She keeps clothes and toilerties at her Mom's and hardly carries any luggage at all.

13. Fine with me. I usually take only carry on luggage. At most I would have one checked

bag, but generally hate checking luggage. It's so much nicer to get off the plane and go straight out rather than sitting in baggage claim for maude knows how long.
