Recommend some new music
I'm going to recommend the new self-titled Avenged Sevenfold CD. They are basically a new metal band with some old school influences. You can hear jazz, orchestral instruments, and a choir on "A Little Piece of Heaven," and a countrified, steel guitar and acoustic guitar are featured on "Dear God." But for the rest of the record it's good, old fashioned, melodic thrash reminiscent of metal pioneers Iron Maiden, Randy Rhoads, and Megadeth.

You might have heard their first single "Almost Easy" off the new record if you listen to a new rock station. If you like that you owe it to yourself to get the album. Better things await.

1. Well, you and I have very different tastes, but here goes:
Landon Pigg - Falling in Love in a Coffee Shop

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFNi5TZD-qc

It's a beautiful, simple, unpretentious little song. I love it.

And yes, it is the song used in the diamond commercial. The sad thing is that these days a song like this would never get airplay without being featured in an ad first. :grr:

2. Very pretty
I know what you mean about the ads. The poor bastards can't even get their mom to listen to their stuff then some guy stumbles across them some how and says, "This would sell a lot of Cadillacs," and whamo! they're stars.

16. What's sad is that if there was a radio station that just played music from hip commercials,
I would probably listen to it all the time.

3. Here's something a bit different...
Devil Music Ensemble doing music to the movie Nosferatu. I saw them do this for the movie live last summer and it was pretty amazing. I think Maiden would be pleased with the epic sweep, even minus any guitar (DME is just three dudes).

And I have to include one from my favorite band, Nomeansno. Great bass player! Even better knowing he's in his fifties when this was recorded. :)

4. Awesome!
Both of those bands make a lot of noise for 3 pieces. And that 50 year old dude is bringing a lot of energy. He plays that bass like a six string axe.

String quartet meets heavy metal. It's pretty different, but in a good way.A couple other of my current favorites are "Do Make Say Think" & "The Acorn". A couple of excellent Canadian groups.

11. Punk is alive and kicking
I'm enjoying the tunes they have posted on their myspace page. So much good music out there that most people don't hear because it gets no air time for some reason.

Pandora uses this "music genome" project to build custom Internet radio stations. You seed it with a song or a group and it takes over from there.

It is a certainty that if you pick a song you really like, that it will introduce you to new (and "new old") artists that you also really like. For example, I picked Gwen Mars, who are somewhat obscure and it found some similar music by Robert Plant. Frankly, I wouldn't have looked to Robert Plant for music that I'd like. It also found a bunch of artists I'd never heard of.

If your looking for new music, I highly recommend spending some time listening to Pandora.

P.S. Chances are, Pandora has music from the groups listed in this thread, so you can check it out.
