He was in one around Decembra 1944, 3rd fleet, task force 38 trying to get near Luzon from Ulithi to support MacArthur......
and the 3destroyers Spence, Monaghan, and Hull overturned and sank, they did not have enough
fuel in their bunkers for ballast, over 800 sailors lost.....
his weather forcasters were not too good, as he is the commander and takes the blame, although the weather guys should have been reprimanded.
The 2nd one was in July 1945, Mccain Sr was blamed for that one......(John Mccains grampy)
the USS Hornet had its flight deck bent partially, the USS Pittsburgh lost part of its bow, as it floated by, the sailors were heard to say...."There goes a suburb of Pittsburgh"
Mccain was furious, Halsey had to calm him down, and told him he should be at the surrender
ceremony 2Sept 1945, he flew back to San Diego, and Mccain had a heart attack and died a few days
later, VADM Willis Lee, the Battleship commander also had a heart attack a few days after he

in the book. President Ford was on one of the Carriers and almost was washed overboard.

I don't drink Heineken but when I was deployed to Saudi Arabia in 96, all we had to drink was non-alcoholic and the NA Heinken was very good. It was funny to see Sailors and Airmen and a handful of Soldiers and Marines drinking all night long with no one getting drunk and no one fighting.
