I didn't know that Reno, Nevada is west of Los Angeles.
I'm a geographical idiot.

At some point, when transferring to different schools when I was a kid, I missed having any geography lessons.

As a result, I don't know little tidbits like the above.

Does anybody else have any mad geographical knowledge to drop on me?

9. Pensacola, Fla. is farther west than Washington Island, Wis.
it's that Panhandle thing.

The only two states that extend below sea level are California (Death and Imperial Valleys) and Louisiana (parts of New Orleans).

Technically, the easternmost point in the U.S. is not West Quoddy Head, Maine, but Alaska's Aleutian Islands, which extend across the 180th meridian.

When I live in LA and my brother lived in Tahoe, it was basically just a straight shot north to get there.

Other fun facts.... What's the world's only doubly-landlocked country? (meaning it is land locked, and so are all of the countries that border it). Hint: it's in Europe.

I think the most eastern state shown as Alaska is 'bordering' on a ridiculous answer. The idea that any point 1 mile east of Maine is not farther east in the usa than Alaska strains credulity.

Interesting on the states with 8 border states though.

From the Greenwich meridian (defined as Long = 0), 179 degrees east is about as far east as one can get. Unless the United States is defined as the center of the world.
