My Dad is dead. His small plane crashed.

We'd been estranged for many years. I called him a few times a year. He sent me avocados from his tree every year.

He build his ultralight in his warehouse. I told him I'd lose a hundred pounds so I could go up with him. That plane was his dream for years, and he'd been able to fly it for about a year.

I don't know how it happened yet.

I hope he wasn't scared. I hope he didn't suffer.

he would walk away from it. I have a friend who was in a bad accident and
almost died. I asked him if he was scared and if he knew he would die. He
said, "I was embarrassed. I thought I'd crash and make a fool out of myself.
When you're in trouble, all you do is think about how to survive. It wasn't
scary."

I hope that provides some comfort. His remarks always stuck with me.

You mentioned that you were estranged from your father. However, you made
phone calls and I'm sure they meant a lot to your father, and you'll always

I have so enjoyed the escapades of your cats, the fun and troubles that you and your partner have both enjoyed and endured. Now, I am so sorry for your loss. I, too, hope he had a peaceful departure doing what he enjoyed.

for what it is worth, I used to know a bunch of EAA types with homebuilt aircraft of various types and all of them would tell you they wanted to go doing what they loved most, flying.
