Our cats have discovered the joys of a laser pointer
Morrissey comes up and meows for it. I love watching them chase it around in circles. Occasionally I will be magnanimous and let them "catch" it. Why didn't I get one of these things years ago?

1. I have great fun with mine
I like to shine it up the wall and get kitty cat to jump up after it.
I only wish he could actualy catch it ......he just tries soooooo hard.

2. Yes, they do love to jump at it, don't they?
I almost feel badly for them that they can never really control it.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

8. Of course they control it
They got you to buy one to use for their pleasure and enjoyment, didn't they?

3. Mine is on a key chain that rattles when I pick it up
The rattle alone brings Grayson running.

Then the silly cat learned how to retrieve it from my end table and couldn't understand why the little red dot didn't happen when he pulled it off. I finally had to hid it inside a box to get some peace. Gratest kitty toy ever.

11. our Percy ..
We can forget about the light for weeks then we finally take the chain off the hook and he comes running, like he's listened for it every second of the day or something.
The other two cats can take it or leave it, but Percy totally spazzes out.

4. The cat where I'm temporarily staying just stares at the hand I'm holding the pointer in.
And gives me that look.

5. Glad to hear SOME people's cats like them
The amazing Lana cat, shown here, was not at ALL amused by the laser pointer she received for Christmas. She got bored chasing the laser within minutes, and sat there looking at me like I was an idiot.

She has two toys she likes; her catnip-stuffed mouse, and a little toy mouse that swings in circles, switching directions.

She is NOT amused...

6. We have the same problem around here
Her Majesty (who looks very much like your little one) gets bored - I have to give some of the toys a periodic time out. The Xmas gift, Undercover Mouse, gets some, but limited attention. Not worth the price.

12. Thanks!
SHE certainly thinks so. She is quite the princess.

First cat I ever owned (always had dogs) and I love her to bits. She is endlessly entertaining.

13. Named for the singer
It was either going to be "Morrissey" or "Hornsby" (for Bruce, as I love both singers) - he meowed to "Morrissey," so Morrissey he became!

10. Ah yes, good ol' US Patent #5443036
http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5443036.html

Which I never understood. I mean it's not a patent for making a laser, just using a laser pointer to entertain a feline.

14. DO IT ON LINOLIUM
or a hardwood flooor...

It's the greatest! I once had my kitten running flat out.... while not moving an inch! I just spun it around her and she was like a furry top. Legs pumping like hell while spinning after the laser dot!

Then I shot the dot across the room and the poor kitty was so dizzy she bounded off the stove trying to run after it!

You can get them to jump really high if you try. Cats can jump like six feet vertically if properly motivated.

It's like a remote control for your cat, isn't it?
