So, my son is in a cast
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 07:43 PM by LuckyTheDog
I was not going to write about this. But here goes...

My 6-year-old son fell while ice skating and broke his wrist! Ugh. The poor little guy is wearing a cast.

I was actually amazed at how brave he was during the whole thing. He cried a lot at first. But he got through the whole ordeal at the emergency room like a real trooper.

Today, he stayed in and watched cartoons on DVD almost the whole day while we pampered the crap out of him. He's doing pretty well. But I, feel awful for him. I wish I could have broken a bone in his place.

1. I know how badly you feel for him
but once the pain subsides and the kids at school see his cast, he'll wear it like a badge of honor.

3. Ouch
I have a seven-year-old, and I can relate--although mine hasn't broken any bones (yet), he did wreck his bike last year and lacerated his upper lip pretty badly. I was literally shaking the whole time, wanting to DO something to "fix" it, and knowing there really wasn't anything to be done, other than an ER visit for some cleaning and stitches.

Thankfully he got right back up on that bike after he healed--*I* was more afraid than he was, lol. Here's hoping your little one is feeling better and ready to skate again soon.

5. My wrist is broken too!

I did while snowboarding for the very first time. Boy, does it ever suck. This accident has left me feeling devastated. It was almost a month ago. I've felt frustrated at not being able to do anything well (try going through the day without the use of one of your hands), depressed, tired, lonely. A month for me is a drop in the bucket, at my age, but it's going to feel like eternity to a 6 year old.

6. At that age it's a badge of honor.
All his playmates will be green with envy when they see it. (Just pray they don't decide THEY need a cast too...)

9. oh man :( I'm sorry he had to go through
this. I know how you feel. Every time my son got hurt I wished it was me instead.
He's going to get through this just fine, probably easier than you will heh.

 for your little man.

 for you.

11. Out of Curiousity, What's The Hospital Charge, If You Don't Mind
I think that people should be aware of just how expensive health care is.

12. I'll know that later
I suspect it'll be about $2,000. Insurance will cover most of it.

14. I hope it heals fully and he never has any future problems.
:)

I'm glad he's got good, caring parents to worry about him and take care of him.
He's a sign that he's a very lucky kid.

15. Oh, the poor little guy. I'm so sorry for him.
:(

I guess the 'upside' is that it didn't happen in the summer and then be really uncomfortable and sweaty and itchy.

 to your brave son!!

18. Of course you feel that way, but remember this: I spent most of my first two years with both
of my legs in casts. I know that, but don't remember it.

Your son will forget this soon enough.

19. One of the triplet boys fell off a jungle gym in the summer....
and broke his arm. He was not happy until he got a cast that he could swim and shower more effectively with. At the time, he was just a couple months short of seve.

Happily, kids that age heal quickly. He spent about four or five weeks in the cast only.

Good luck to him.
