Coffee fans: what sort of coffee do you drink when you're looking to start slow in the morning?
Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 12:53 PM by BlueIris
I've been cruising along with a Sumatra that is just. too. harsh. for me to continue drinking on certain mornings. It's bold, it's brash, it's too much. I'm looking for something that's a bit smoother, more mellow, or at least less of a smack-you-in-the-face a.m. wake-up. I'm thinking that maybe next I'll get a French Roast or try the "Mexican" blend my coffee house is offering (don't know whether it's really from Mexico or not, the coffee house's label just reads "Mexican" on it). Other suggestions would be welcome.

3. I don't have start slow in the mornings. I am not a morning person
so I need all the help I can get.

If I were looking for something more mellow, I might try tea.

5. ...egh. But see, I think I'll better be able to cope with mornings if I feel like my coffee isn't
throwing a bucket of ice-cold water on me to get me started.

11. No help from me here; we're kind of "coffee primitives." I know you'll yell at me, but
we actually use a percolator, and whatever coffee is on sale at the supermarket.

My personal preference is that 1:00 PM cup, when the coffee has reached the consistency of driveway sealer.

13. Folgers breakfast blend is pretty mild
most of the breakfast blends are nice and mild, but still taste good. My daughter sent me a lb of a Guatamalen (sp) roast that is also very nice. She has a friend who roasts his own beans, so I get to try different things every now and then. I'm like you, have to have a substantial amount of caffeine or I'll get a migraine.

16. Try a Kona.
It's more of a laid back coffee than Sumatran.

21. Agreed. I'm drinking
Kona right now. Of course, it's fair trade coffee too, the only kind I buy.

17. Start slow?
In the morning? The whole reason I drink coffee in the morning is to start fast, so give me the smack-in-the-face rocket fuel. However, at times when I've wanted less of a jolt (usually at night), I sometimes mix caf with decaf.

22. I found a Mexican Alturas that was really mellow that I liked a lot. I tend to
try different things out, buy my coffee at a grocery that has many varieties of whole bean coffees that you can buy in small quantities, grind to your liking and then decide what you want to repeat. Mild roasts will give you a less harsh coffee as well. Italian Roast is mellower than French Roast.

I have tried and loved a Bourbon coffee (bean name, not flavored ), Mexican Alturas, a nice breakfast blend... but getting them in small amts is an easy way, I think.

Currently drinking a bean called Carnarvi from Bolivia. Very nice. Brand is Pick of the Harvest, Jeremiah's pick...free trade beans...I KNOW Central Market in Texas can't be the only place that carries this line of coffee. The varieties vary at our store, but I have loved them all.

Good luck with your quest!

and a dash of cinnamon in the coffee basket brightens up any cup

24. I like Dunkin' Donuts original blend.
It is very tasty and smooth.

I buy two one pound bags at a time and brew it at home.

Am enjoying a nice smooth cup of 'joe' as we speak.
