‘Battlestar Galactica’ may be back
Sci-Fi may turn miniseries into new series
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4153386/

NEW YORK - Sci-fi fans probably haven’t seen the last of “Battlestar Galactica.”
After successfully relaunching the franchise as a miniseries in December, Sci Fi Channel picked up the options last week on its top cast members, which include Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell and Katee Sackhoff. Sources said the cable network is aiming to run “Galactica” as a full-fledged series as early as fourth-quarter 2004.

Sci Fi declined comment, but all indications are that at least six episodes of “Galactica” will be shot in Vancouver as soon as April. It will likely be one of cable’s more expensive drama series, with production estimates as high as $1.5 million per episode.

The four-hour “Galactica” miniseries averaged 4.2 million viewers last year, making it the third-highest-rated multinight program Sci Fi has aired.

3. It reminds me of
Asimov's "Foundation" series books where they are trying to find Earth. Good show.

4. And I dont care what anyone says..
The new Starbuck is fantastic. She even resembles Dirk occasionally. The old Starbuck was kind of a playa and slept around alot..that probably wouldnt work these days.

5. I was a huge fan of the original series
And even I must admit that the new miniseries is head-and-tail over the original. The whole Battlestar Galactica myth is just such a very compelling story, and it has long deserved a mature, respectful telling. I have to believe the people that made this new miniseries are big fans of the original series as well, because they kept in all the truly terrific elements of the original show while discarding all the cheesy '70s-ish stuff.

And the Cylons, as ever, kick ass, as does the new Starbuck, who is truly the spiritual successor to Dirk Benedict. She is so much like Dirk that I hope they can work him into the show. If he could play her dad...well, that would just be too incredibly cool.

7. Loved the miniseries...
...sad that the new series won't be weekly. The old Galactica was supposedly the most expensive series on TV (which was pretty amazing, since they simplly recycled the same shots OVER and OVER.

It will be wonderful for us geeks to have Galactica, since the Star Trek series have finally run out of steam.
