1. Yes!
Mr. Doggie and I love this italian restaurant in Maine. We know we have to make reservations at 6:30 or else we won't eat til 9. And we cannot be starving when we get there, cuz we probably won't be eating anything more than bread and salad before 7:30.

Why do we go? It is absolutely the best italian I have ever eaten. And as long as we plan appropriately we can still have a nice night out.

5. but that doesn't sound like lousy service just an acknowledgement that the restaurant is popular
and you have to get your reservation in early. One you are there is the service good?

7. Nope, the service is really slow
It is a small place, with about 12 tables. There is only one waitress who is also the owner of the place. She is the only one who can take orders. Her husband is the bartender and is only allowed to make and deliver drinks. Sometimes they have a bus-person, who is only allowed to bring bread and water to the table. The owner can only take 4 dinner orders at a time, because if she takes more than 4 the cook will quit. There are only 4 burners on his stove. He cannot deal with the stress of getting more than 4 orders at a time. If you are having dinner with more than 4 people someone is going to have to wait.

We laugh at people who have never been there before and start getting all squirmy waiting for their food. And anyone who complains gets something like the Soup Nazi treatment. But the food is REALLY good!

15. Where in Maine?
I have some friends up there, and I'm wondering if it's in their areas.

3. If I can at least get the food in a reasonable amount of time, sure.
Then again I don't eat out very often anyway.

4. Hell, No!!!
Good service is a definite plus to a dining experience and if the wait staff isn't any good, I'll just bypass the establishment and find one where both the food and the service are good.

6. Well there is one place..
I go to a Pizza place, with the very best Pizza. But sometimes, occasionally, the service is very bad. I keep going back, the vegetables are extremely fresh and the Pizza is GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT...

9. This is not an either/or question, it's an AND.
good food, good service, I'll be back.

If either is missing, I won't.

10. Sometimes the food is so good it's worth putting up with terrible service,
That's not often the case however.

11. It depends on how it sucks
Many times bad service will affect what ends up on your plate, and if it ever arrives.

If the food is awesome, and thereby probably unique in some way, I will put with weird waiter personalities, and consider is part of the ambiance.

12. Absolutely....
There was a continental place here several years back where the service was VERY inconsistent, but the food was like nothing else. You just didn't plan to go there if you were on any kind of schedule. I had some of my best meals and memories in that place....

Unfortunately, the owners retired and moved back to Germany...

13. Depends on the definition of "service sucks"
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 10:58 PM by Kucinich4America
If they're a little slow, but the food is good, I might go back, but not often. If they're downright rude, arrogant, Soup Nazi types (or Freepers/Busheep), then to Hell with them, no matter how good the food is.

18. My dear bertha...
Both the service and the food have to be good...

Now, we understand that even the best places will have days when the service sucks...

But they have to be trying to do their best, at the very least...

My two cents...

:hi:
