Little help please, does anybody have an xbox?
my daughter asked for it for Christmas and i know almost nothing about gaming systems. Is this pretty easy to find or is it one of the sold out things like the WII and does it come with stuff like games and controllers or do i have to buy them separately? please and thank you.

1. does she want the xbox or the xbox 360?

i have no idea how available either is, but i'm pretty sure both come with controllers. as far as games, they might have some package deals, but the systems usually come by themselves

3. Does she want a regular Xbox or the Xbox 360?
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 09:27 PM by Rob H.
The regular Xbox comes with one controller and no games (at least, it didn't come with any when I bought mine). The same might be true for the 360, but I'm not sure.

Edit: kagehime and I were probably typing our replies at the same time. Jinx! :P

4. we have one that was given to us
I would suggest using the internets to do some research. Check out places like amazon.com or bestbuy, target, ect.... they ought to have them and with the descriptions you'll find out what you'll need. I think there are a couple of different versions of the xbox out there, so maybe you should have her be a little more specific.

Usually they (game boxes) come with at least one controller. Sometimes they come with a game.

:P

It was $362.00 when my son got his. That was a month ago.

He bought it at Game Stop. www.gamestop.com

You may be able to find a bundle package (including a game, controllers, etc.) Maybe not.

I'll bet they're all sold out by now. WiFi's are all sold out and on back order.

8. I wouldn't expect the xbox's to be selling out this year...
but I don't know for sure, as I'm not shopping for one... Perhaps you could get her the console, and suggest that others get any necessary accessories...

9. Don't worry, it's not sold out.
Only the Nintento Wii is sold out. XBox 360s and Playstation 3s are stacked head-high at my local Best Buy, Target, Game Stop, and Fry's Electronics. Either get the normal unit or the "Halo 3" special edition. There's no difference between the units themselves in terms of functionality, except the Halo 3 one comes in a sort of olive drab military color, while the normal unit is white.

Don't bother with the "XBox 360 Arcade" version. It's cheaper, but is a hobbled machine without a hard disk, useable only for playing old-time games available on the XBox Live service. Your child will hate you if you buy one of these.

10. Naturally there are lots of optional accessories you can buy
I got an Xbox last Christmas. A few months later I got the steering wheel / pedals for my birthday.

Fun, fun, fun.

A couple other things to note: Never buy new games. They're ridiculously overpriced. I get mine from a store that sells used books and music. There are also stores devoted to just video games. I do occasionally rent games from Blockbuster just to try them out before deciding if I want to own them.

The good/bad news is that the Xbox is more than just a gaming system. It lets you connect your TV and sound system to your computer. When we have guests we torture them with digital photo slide shows and mixes of music. When combined with a media PC it acts as a TIVO. My wife has no interest in video games but wants a second Xbox just so she can watch recorded TV in the bedroom.
