Any Firesign Theater Fans Out There
Some of the most intelligent humor out there.

Skits like: "Side Five"

"How many are we?"

Great stuff.

"Aw, I'd love to, Peorgie, but I've got my two-tones through the floorboard already!"

"Well, okay. Then we could take the shortcut through Frogtown."

"Aw, reet! We can stop off at Pop's and dig some jugs!"

"Some what?"

"That Louise Wong's got a balcony you could do Shakespeare from!"

"Aw, not now, Mudhead. They need me at the last meeting of the Philatelists' Club."

"I didn't know you masturbated."

"Aw, creepies, Mudhead! Where's your school spirit?"

"In the rumble seat. Want a snort?"

26. That was about when I first heard 'em
My senior year in high school, 1974, a local "underground" radio station played "High School Madness," starting with the Ersatz Brothers Coffee commercial. ("A blend of the finest Brazilian soya beans, Chilean chicory nuts and Spanish flies.")

I was like, "Can they do that on the radio?" :D

43. I must confess
It's in "The Firesign Theatre's Big Book of Plays." :D

I have parts of "High School Madness" committed to memory, but that ain't one of 'em.

This is, though:

"Peorgie! Peorgie Tirebiter!"

"C-c-c-c..... coming, mother!"

"He's so good with the servants, Fred."

"Stop calling me Fred! My name's Adolph!"

"Bombs away, dad! Morning, mom! Hot dog, groat cakes again! Heavy on the 30-weight, mom!"

"Don't eat with your hands, son. Use your entrenching tool."

Now I'll have to get out the tapes to find which ones I have audio for, and then follow along on the script to fill in the holes. I do remember this line: "Quick, nurse, the screens!" (Said whenever a character was about to embarrass himself in some large way.)

the Pythons were huge fans of Spike Milligan and "The Goon Show," and there probably wouldn't have been a Monty Python without Milligan's influence.

32. I saw them at Stanford in 1974
One of the smaller auditoriums, don't remember the name of it...nice, intimate, and you've never seen dense, hanging white clouds of reefer like these in your life. I've got to say that at least one third of the audience was toking at any given time throughout the entire show. Anyone who BOUGHT weed for the show that night was a chump. All you had to do was sit there and breathe normally. My friends and I were really close to the stage. There is no Firesign Theater "hype"...these guys were every bit as good as their legend.

I've got all of the albums. My favorite is "Everything You Know Is Wrong," for more reasons than I could possibly list here. It was their "Abbey Road."

39. That Was My Favorite As Well
"Everything You Know Is Wrong" was there best work IMO.

One of my favorite parts was the two anchorman ...one was named Hamburger but pronounced (Hamberjer). They were describing what a cave was..."You know, a cave is just a hole on its side." And..as they were leaving the air...you can hear in the background "Have you ever had to piss fast, Dave?"

I don't know what it was about them. They were so well-read and their humor was like a puzzle. It didn't matter how many times you head it, there was always something new that you hadn't heard before.

Amazing stuff.
