4. Oh man!!!

I wish I would of seen this earlier. After checking out the shortboard action at Steamer's, I drove south to 41st and stopped at a local surf-shop to buy a hood. There was this little cafe next door that served great food. After lunch and a little tide drop, I found "The Hook", and paddled out in that cold cold water. It took a while to get the timing right but finally I positioned myself on a wave and popped my shoulder taking off. It hurt so much I just fell back in to the water even though I was on a perfect loooooooooong right-handed, tame, gem of a wave.

I was barely able to paddled back in to the lineup and waited a good ten minutes before I tried to take off on another wave. As soon as I tried to push up on another breaker the pain returned just as intensely. I managed to carry my board back to my van, stopped at a coffee shop across and a few doors down from the surf shop. After my cup O' Joe my shoulder was still giving me a great deal of pain so I gassed up my van and I'm typing this from my home in Manhattan Beach.

You guys live in surf paradise. There are so many great breaks, diverse but physically close together, for every skill level. The people out in the water were as cool as I've ever met. Even some granny out in the lineup was as sweet as can be, even though she snaked me out of a half dozen waves. I'm not kidding, she had to of been in her late sixties at the youngest, but had the instincts of great white shark when it came to dropping in on a wave.

I shall return!!!

My back is killing me, I spent too many hours yesterday trying to unclog a drain, and the last fricking thing I need right now is a deathstar. So you just get over it. Real surfers don't use deathstars.
