Public Service Announcement: clean the fucking ice off your fucking trucks, assholes.

This is what my car looks like now. The shattered windshield is where my wife was sitting when a serving-platter-sized (and about 3-inch thick) chunk of ice flew off a semi trailer at 65 MPH.

Everybody's okay, and the glass-fixing company is fixing the windshield right now. The passenger compartment is filled with tiny shards of glass.

Fucking assholes. Clean your fucking vehicles before entering the fucking highway.

are you going to file a police report? I don't know how much good they do in this day and age, but at least you'll have a record of it, it it's not too much bother.

(BTW I know there's a trucking company called "Yellow" that has orange and white trucks. I think they're pretty common in the upper midwest area. Maybe it's one of theirs?)

He came off an on ramp ahead of me on the interstate.
Just out of the gravel pit, I guess.
I saw gravel on the ledge of the tailgate and started to move to the left lane.
Too late.
A chunk came off and bounced right up into my windshield in front of the passenger seat where Miz t. was..

I chased him down and pulled him over.
Got his name, company name, etc.
I. Was. PISSED!
Happened in TN and I was on the way home to AL.
I called the company and told them what had happened.
They basically said 'tough shit'.

It takes all of a few minutes to clear the ice off of a car or truck. You'd think that some would take that little amount of time to prevent things like this.

The vehicles are so tall that owners don't try to clean the roof off, as they would need a ladder to do it, and they aren't going to work that hard.

I got hit with a "stone" that chipped my windshield Saturday and just had it fixed yesterday (they grind it out)for $50 and I was bitching.
Shit, I am embarrassed I was complaining. OMG, I am so sorry. I am so glad no one was hurt. Were you able to get the Lic# of the truck?

One thing I have seen over the 20+ years I drove in the high Sierra Mountains through many long winters of ice and snow:

Many of the semis that would be driving on I-80 would actually clean off the ice, especially when chaining up before going over "the hill", as we called it.
However, they would accumulate ice as they drove due to snow from the road, the storm or just slush on the highway, and would not purposely have ice on their vehicles. And, yes, those chunks would get so heavy that they would drop off suddenly while the truck was driving on down the interstate. But, I did see these drivers along the road at places where they could stop, getting out and knocking the ice off before continuing. Ice accumulation while driving can even happen to regular everyday type cars.

Anyway...it's possible the semi that threw the ice had that ice due to accumulation, not negligence.

Sorry for what happened...had a huge rock thrown at the front of my VW camper from a passing log truck in Oregon back in '72. Thought it was going to come clear through the non-existent front end on that vehicle. Luckily, it hit the headlamp, and the parabola of that lamp flung it back out and in front of me where I was able to miss driving over it. of course, it completely shattered the headlamp.
