3. Demonstrating, once again
the sheep-like nature of "serious" art people.

4. My take:

Kids that little don't really have to many preconceived notions of what something should look like, so are probably going to generate far more free-form stuff than an adult, who generally is going to end up 'trying to hard' to make it look random, making it less random. Not that I like that crap, but still, if you are going for that crazy stuff, any two year old will have a legs up on that over an adult.

Historically, ketchup has been a condiment based on just about anything. The origin of the word is said to date to 17th-century China, where a spicy pickled fish sauce was called ke-tsiap. The sauce found its way to England, where it evolved in many directions, with the addition of anything from mangoes to walnuts to mushrooms. It wasn’t until after ketchup made the voyage to New England, that it featured a tomato foundation, and became the popular sauce for which the French now tend to mock us.

7. It's pretty sad when "experts" can't tell if art is legitimate....
I've nothing against abstract art- I have several pieces that I bought because the colors worked with my furniture and walls. But I don't know, or pretend to know what they represent- I don't care.

Maybe I should give my 5-year-old a canvas and some paint for a Christmas present....

9. DAMN this is funny...
The young artist is said on Saatchi Online to have "dedicated his whole life to art".

"A gallery in Berlin emailed, saying they were having an exhibition and thought Freddie's work was of a high standard and would like him to participate."

"I wrote on his behalf thanking them and asked them to let us know how their plans progress. They still don't know he's only two."

I must admit I do like his work!

10. I like those pictures as well
It seems that the uproar is not so much about what is 'legitimate art' but rather what is a 'legitimate artist.' If those are 100% the work of the child (and I admit I have a sneaking suspicion that the mom is putting one over on us, at least a bit), then it's not impossible that they are his young attempt to convey his idas, emotions, and/or impression of the world. If they also evoke a response in the viewer, then it seems like art to me...

12. I hope underpants sees this thread
Perhaps his daughter could use some paints and canvas to give her artistic expression a more acceptable outlet. ;)
