I'm thinking of going to a UU church today
I've discovered a Unitarian Universalist church that's close to where I live. I've been looking for a way to meet new people and also get involved in the community. The church has people who volunteer for work at homeless shelters and kitchens. They have also put up a "peace labyrinth" in protest of the war. It's comprised of almost 4000 pieces of art made by congregation members. One for each death in the Iraq war. They state on their web site that they have a special interest in raising awareness for women's issues and GLBT rights.

Here is a link to their site ----> http://www.mvuuf.org/index.php

What do you think? It's been so long since I've been to church that I don't think that I have appropriate clothing for it. I hope they are okay with jeans and flannel. :)

1. The UU church that I've attended
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 08:07 AM by Heidi
was a "come as you are" place. I think jeans and flannel would probably be just fine, Droopy. :hi:

3. I loved it.
But I have to admit, I attended more Tai Chi classes there than church services. :)

Nice to see you, too, friend.

4. My dear Droopy...
If I were going to go to church, that's where I'd go!

My husband and I were married in one, 42 years ago!

We wrote our own service, and we had the best time evah...

I think you'll find it fits you really well!

:)

5. there are plenty of opportunities for service in a UU church
....in just about any interest you have. There are usually many social opportunities, too. And you will be made to feel welcome, absolutely. I'm not a Unitarian, but have two UU ministers in my immediate family.

6. Did you go?
I started going to the local UU church....and sadly, I've been getting up too late every Sunday to get there...
I'm promising myself to go next Sunday....
I needed a place to be...and I found it.
Now to get back to it...
You'll love it...I promise.
peace~

8. My UU congregation only wears jeans & flannel
on those extra-special occasions when only one's Sunday best will do.

Droopy, your local congregation, MVUUF, is extraordinarily fortunate to have Amy Russell as its minister. Amy was minister of my congregation, Sugarloaf Congregation of UUs in Germantown, MD, for 5 years. She left us this past June. Amy is a warm, wonderful, spiritual human being, a terrific listener, and to me, a good friend. She helped shape our congregation into the warm, welcoming community it is today.

I hope you went, and enjoyed the service. Let us know how it went!

LibE
