"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent."
- Eleanor Roosevelt

She was a wise woman. And, after hearing that quote for the last 20 years or so of my life,

it finally sank in this morning...

out of the blue.

Thank you, Eleanor!

I think I'll go get my coffee now..

17. A definite sign of a sick society are the comparative numbers of persons
who are willing to kick someone who is down versus the dwindling number of those who would lend a hand.

15. How did you manage to let it soak in?
I've yet to really learn this lesson. I was starting to wonder if it's somethingthat can't be fully realized until I'm post-menopausal.

16. I wish I had a logical explanation for you...
Possibly, it was one too many... trying to make me feel as though I'm not worthy. Does that make sense. Something happened over the weekend. It's really too personal to get into. It just made me think... that's all.

Sorry I don't have better advice for you. I do hope you find that feeling, too, though. And, I hope my feeling of "worthiness" lasts!

23. It's a great feeling. I was reading my Buddhist cook book and
The author said, "No one will approve of you if you don't" and that hit me hard. And I think it stuck. At elast for the last eight weeks.

i am not putting up with any crap lately.

Here's my favorite from Eleanor:

“Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art”

22. A powerful and true statement
Edited on Mon Nov-12-07 08:37 PM by hippywife
from a kind and passionate woman with a huge heart. If it hadn't been for her FDR probably wouldn't have made half of the moves towards societal safety nets for the poor that came about during his administration. She was the impetus for all good change in that arena during his administration. I seriously doubt he would have ever thought to do things like that left to his own devices.

She was a true heroine to the poor. She actually went out there and did the work, not just throw money at the problem and go on, looking the other way. She rolled up her sleeves and dug in!

Might fine lady, she was.

24. It is a good quote.
But sometimes people should feel inferior, but don't. (Exhibit A: Bush, Coulter, Freepers).

26. During the last years of FDR, she was leading the country
It wasn't really public, but no one 'knew' FDR as well as Eleanor - so they turned to her. And she led, man did she lead.
