Who is the most annoying TV character in history?
My nominees:

Mary Louise Parker's Amy on the West Wing. Trying way too hard to be cute.

Kristen Kreuk's Lana on Smallville. She only has one expression, and it's a dull one.

Urkel. I mean, just, yeah. And Screech.

Wendy Pepper on Project Runway. ACK! I wanted that woman dead by the second episode of that season.

Emeril. BAM! You're a has-been!

Who drives you up a wall?

she was Issues Director for the National Organization of Women, Political Director of EMILY's List, founder of the Democratic Women's Forum, director of the Women's Leadership Coalition, chief of staff to FLOTUS, and presumptive Director of Legislative Affairs in the Santos Administration.

and she was hotter than hell.

and her profession was more than worthy - but I have to agree... the snottiness and timbre of her voice is more than a bit irritating...

Her character very rarely failed to annoy me. Which is funny because I generally like Mary Louise Parker and her acting but this was the one West Wing character that I always found annoying

And she was a strong female character. How many times do we hear women clambering for more strong female characters on TV?

You are so right. Well, almost. I see two expressions: the one where she smiles and the one where she's not smiling.

And that's it.

Clark smiles at her: smiling expression.
She gets threatened by the weekly villain: serious look.
She gets a raise, a promotion, a hug: smiling expression.
She gets her leg chopped off: serious look.

Get some acting depth Kristen!

112. Isle Thing
by "Weird Al" Yankovic
To the tune of "Wild Thing" by Tone Loc

Met this fine young thing
At the local Circle K
We made a date for a half past eight
And I said, "What the hey?"

So I journeyed to her crib
And I let myself inside
That chick was slouched down on the couch
I think her brain was fried

Couldn't figure it out
She wouldn't even look at me
Then I saw her eyes, she was hypnotised
Cold glued to her TV

"Hey, what's your problem baby doll
Let's have a little fling"
She said, "Hey you fool, now just be cool
I'm watchin' that Gilligan's Isle thing"

Isle thing
Isle thing, isle thing, isle thing

Watchin' all night
Musta, been a marathon
I was bummin', those shows kept comin'
Here's what was goin' on

These Castaways were stranded
On this island out at sea
One of them called Gilligan
Said lets name it after me

He'd mess up every rescue
Man, that first mate was illin'
If I was one of those Castaways
I think I'd probably kill 'em

Just about that time
Telephone began to ring
She said, "Just let it, my machine'll get
We're watchin' the Gilligan's Isle thing

Isle thing
She loves that Gilligan's Isle thing
Isle thing, isle thing, isle thing
Please, baby, baby, please

I like the professor
He always saves their butts
He could build a nuclear reactor
From a clouple' of coconuts

She said, "That guy's a genius"
I shook my head and laughed
I said, "If he's so fly, they tell me why
He couldn't build a lousy raft"

And while we're on the subject
I'll tell you one thing for sure
Those homeboys brought an awful lot
For just a three hour tour

Then her mom came in the room
It was kind of embarrasing
She said, "Hey you two, I was once like you
And I loved that Gilligan's Isle thing"

Isle thing
She'd watch that Gilligan's Isle thing
Please, baby, baby, please

Skipper's in a hammock
He's looking kinda fat
He'd throw a fit and then he'd hit
Old Gilligan with his hat

Mrs. Hal had it goin' on
But Mr. Hal was meaner
Ginger and Mary Anne could've used
Some Funky Cold Medina

I was really diggin' this show
I didn't know what to do
It kinda looked like I was hooked
Now I'm an addict too

I know each episode by heart
Now I'm the rerun king
And on every date we both stay up late
And we watch the Gilligan's Isle thing

Isle thing
Hasta la vista, little buddy
Gilligan's Isle thing, isle thing, isle thing

Homer ate him. Dr. Phil actually had a sense of humor in that he delivered the line, "I need to help them to help me to help you to help yourself" or something like that but it was pretty funny parody of himself.

The real version I cannot stand however.

143. They really toned down that character for the series...
In the film (where the part was played by Robert Duvall), he was portrayed as a humorless religious fanatic who thought the military was doing "God's will" by killing as many evildewing Commies as possible -- the type of officer who would probably support a coup should any liberal get in office and threaten to derail his "holy war." The television series just made him an incompetent buffoon, instead of someone who'd welcome World War III as God's plan to bring about Armageddon and the Second Coming.

It takes a lot of talent to pull off a Barney Fife, George Costanza, and Frank Burns by staying in those characters so fully.

The irony is that the above actors who played the characters were fairly beloved by their colleagues and completely different than their characters apparently.

Throughout my many years of watching TV. I agree with some of the choices already, but a large part of them implies that I watched many of the shows with the irritating characters.

Agree with the assessment that some of the actors were excellent in their characters which is what made them special--certainly that can be said of Frank Burns, Barney Fife, Dr. Smith, etc. Keeping that in mind, I think for me the most irritating characters are often ones that are not intended to be so annoying as they end up being.

With that in mind, here are some of mine:

"JJ" Evans (Jimmy Walker)--Good Times: If I ever hear "dynomite!" again, it will be too soon;
Arnold Horshack (Ron Palillo)--Welcome Back Kotter: That laugh: Even now, in my worst nightmares, I can hear it....
Archie and Edith Bunker: Enough said
Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason): I wanted to belt him SO much....
Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Kravitz--My Favorite Martian and Bewitched: The most annoying neighbors in the entire world. They wouldn't be out of place in each other's world.
Will Riker--Next Gen: To me, even more annoying than Wesley Crusher. Wesley had the excuse of youth--Riker had no such excuse.
the entire cast of Happy Days except for Tom Bosley: hard to say exactly why, but I shiver when I think of them.
Ralph Furley (Don Knotts)--Three's Company: Even more than Barney Fife!
Wilton Parmenter (Ken Berry)--F Troop: So completely without a clue it was exasperating. Just once, I hoped he would "get" something. What kind of IQ did he have, 10?
the entire cast of Gilligan's Island, no exceptions: And no reason why, either. Just more creepy than the casts of Addams Family and Munsters put together. :scared:

I'm sure I'll remember more. :):

Tadewurz Wladziu Chavlov Konopka has a large family. There are his wife, Dorothy; his son, Teddy, three months; the cats, Taffy and Cleo, and Bernard and Duncan, Mr. Konopka's supporting stars on TV.

Of the last two, Bernard is an impish boy puppet and Duncan is a large, rather hoitytoity toy dog. They bat banter back and forth with ventriloquist Mr. Konopka, known to his fans, employers and friends as Ted Knight, on Children's Theater, his five day a week show on WJARTV.

151. Annoying
Anybody from the A-Team. Bo and Luke duke.

Anybody from Texas walker ranger.

Not really a tv show character ,but Al Michaels comes to mind as annoying.

The older brother from Growing Pains.

I don't remember her name ,but she was a dj on MTV in the late 80s and early 90s. She wore glasses and has dark curly hair. When she left she was considered the most hated dj then.
