Two wrens and a ruby-crowned kinglet gave me hell today.
The feeder was empty; so they came to the front porch and raised a ruckus. When I came to the door, the three of them looked right at me, fluttering around, and chewing me out. The wrens have let me have it before ; but I never caught it from a kinglet before...What a shock!

1. My dear GoddessOfGuinness!
They have trained you well, haven't they?

Shades of "The Birds"? :scared:

Actually, I think that's cool that they know you have food for them...

And that you will respond!

You go girl!

I have an especial fondness for wrens. They're so small, but so brave.

4. Doesn't surprise me at all.
Birds are smart, and they're real good at chewing you out. :-)

5. I've rarely seen kinglets up close here...
Though I'm sure there are plenty around, it seems like they prefer to avoid people. I wonder if the damned drought has made them more dependent on feeders...

12. they come closer to you than you realize sometimes
watch the way they move and then start to look for it, because they have a pattern of movement that is quite distinctive, also there is a sound they make that is sort of like a telegraph or maybe a typewriter, listen for that sound when you see other small birds around and sometimes you'll be surprised to see how close they actually are in a shrub or shorter tree, they aren't always way up there at the top of the tree

i had to train my eyes to see them, but now in winter it's real easyfor me to see them when i go outside in yard or local parks because they are actually common, not shy, and i now know what to look for

i don't know if they prefer to avoid people or honestly if people are (usually) just an irrelevance to them, they are not as obnoxious as hummingbirds about getting in your face but they do have the "small bird" confidence of knowing that they're too tiny to be worth catching and eating :-)

16. We have a lot of dense foliage surrounding the yard...
It's easier to see them now that the leaves are starting to fall.

It can sound like a typewriter! Here's a link to their song: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/audio/Ruby-crowned_Kinglet.html

13. We had a terrible drought this year...
and I put out suet with insects in it in the later months, so it could be that this bird has visited the suet feeder in the past.
