gonna be a long night- firing a kiln. cone 11 is a long wait.
wish i had a better connection, so i would be more entertained.
still have about 400 degrees to go, and going at not quite 100 degrees an hour. and it will go slower as we get higher. well, at least i am free to leave and come back.
another studio member is here, also, as she has stuff in there, too. i think i would be able to convince her that she could go ahead and go home, except that i have been sick for a while, i don't think she would feel right. i am finally feeling good enough to be here, and do this, but i think i will need to sleep most of the day tomorrow.
well, better than my last firing that went til 6 am.
so, tell me a joke or something, eh.

6. it is a gas like the first one, sorta
we have a couple electrics, but i am in it for the roar and all. actually, i use a lot of combustible junk in my sculpture, so i kinda need to do the gas. it smells really bad, and corrodes the elements.
i did fire with some friends a few weeks ago whose kiln is a little like the last one. a wood and salt big ole thing. it was fun, but a lot of work. i really, really loved the pieces that i got out of it, tho. i am hoping to do more of that, but the friends are 4 hours away form me. got a line on someone closer, but didn't get a chance to hook it up. one good thing about it is that no one wants to wood fire alone. take at least a couple days to do, and you need to feed it often.

7. cone 9 looking a little soft.
prolly isn't really. just wishing. got a pyrometer, but it is off. it is fine for figuring your rate of rise. but there are some drippy lookin pots around here belonging to the last person who had to actually trust that thing.

1880- 7:10pm

10. Have a friend who is a potter, but I don't know much about it except for
the Mata Ortiz story - we spend a fair amount of time down there, know a lot of the potters. Kind of a resurrected pre-contact work. The painting is amazing. Have you ever heard of it? Used to be all hand fired under dung or cottonwood. Now there are electric kilns in the village. Allows for production during inclement weather, but the finish is strange. Probably too hot and wipes out the polishing.

15. cone fell at 2:15 am
lost my connection and my problems with my right arm made it hard to type, anyway.
actually, my cone 11 was defective, and fell with the 10. so i went with my adjusted pyrometer readings, and struck the fire at 2:30.
tried to put up a post when i got home, but couldn't get on my own freakin wireless net, and didn't want to waker DH by using this here computer that is in my room.
thanks for those that had a joke for me. here is one i like-

so, a buddhist monk walks up to a hot dog vendor and says, "make me one with everything."
