Need a bit of help here...
I just got (free) from a relative, one of those "Pur" waterpitchers, the ones that purify water before I drink it.

One *BIG* problem.

A replacement filter for it, (I only have the one inside now,) is $20. (!)

Anyone know if there are any cheaper?

1. That's why I've never had one of those...
Sometimes you can find coupons and sometimes you can find "value packs" (which mean you get a better deal but have to buy a few at a time). Other than that... try eBay?

3. Strange, I've never paid more than eight dollars for one, that I know of, for the 2-stage ones that

go in my pitchers. The three stage ones for faucets are more expensive though. Also, they don't advertise it, but the Britta ones fit in the Pur too, they just don't "lock" - but they stay in fine unless you practically turn the pitcher upside-down. I know this because my local military exchange only carries the Britta filters, and they have good prices on them. In addition there are some that I've seen in stores that are third party (but a well known brand, that you just don't think of in relation to water filters, unfortunately, I can't remember it) that look like they'd fit and are about 2/3 the price of the Pur or Britta filters. There are also 1-stage filters available.

I just checked the walmart website, a single 2-stage filter for the pitchers is like $9.97 or something and they're cheaper if you buy them in multi-packs. The prices are pretty much the same at places like Wal*Mart, Target, Walgreens or CVS and hardware stores. I have seen them reduced at places like Big Lots, and at salvage stores.

7. I have an idea
Just hint to your friends & relatives (especially the one who gave you the filter) what's on your birthday & Christmas list (would make a great stocking stuffer). ;)
