Gross ? for women only!!!
Ladies-

Have you ever had a longer than normal period??
Or a period that went away and then came back?

I have no pain or anything, but, after not having my period for 5 months
it came-then went-then came again. It isn't unusual for me not to have periods for anywhere from 4-7
months... mostly due to weight gain and stress (I suffer from panic attacks).

My doctor says not to be alarmed. Anyone have any similar experience?? *that WONT scare the shit out of me!!*

thanks!

1. I do
I also have panic disorder and fluctuating weight issues...my period goes away for months to a year once and then comes back....my doctors do not seem alarmed and blame it on stress....if you want a more regular period try taking the pill, I'm going this month to start to get more regular...don't be alarmed honey!

2. Do you mind if I ask how long it normally lasts?
I'm getting an appointment with a gynecologist but they don't see it as an emergency.
Meanwhile I am giving myself major panic attacks over this.

4. are there any other symptoms besides weight gain
and long periods?

you might want to ask the gyn to check you out for pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) - it's one of those way under-diagnosed syndromes.

But it could just be nothing at all, so don't make yourself crazy about it. :hi:

5. My younger sister has a similar thing
her period naturally comes 2-3 times a year. And she does have polycystic ovarian disease, which is also associated with weight gain.
She is treated by taking birth control pills. Also if 1973 is your bdate then its also possible that you are experiencing peri-menopause (early menopause). Really, I would check with a gynocologist if this continues to bother you, for your piece of mind anyway.

7. Depends on how old you are.
I started that kind of pattern in my early 40's.

8. How old are you? That is probably the msot relevant thing
Like others are saying, if you are nearing menopause - the starting up and stopping period is normal for people from early 40's on.

9. I've had it go away and come back because of weight ~loss~
& extreme physical trauma and emotional distress.

If your doc says it's nothing to be alarmed about and you basically trust his or her medical advice, then go with it.

10. My sis has ovarian cysts.

She'd have only three to four periods a year. But I don't know if when she had them, she would have them one after another. I'm her brother...sufficed to say, she feels comfortable talking to me about these things, but I don't ask in-depth questions.
