Radio Lady's Open Discussion: “The Dialogue: Learning From The Masters, Vol. V" Now available on DVD
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 01:28 PM by Radio_Lady

Radio Lady notes: I have requested the screener(s) for this series and will do a more complete review when the press rep sends them. Meanwhile, for aspiring or existing screenwriters, as well as persons who are interested in film discussion and review here at the Democratic Underground, I thought this information might be of interest.

Watch and Listen to “The Dialogue” with Acclaimed Screenwriters Marshall Herskovitz, Nia Vardalos & Billy Ray

THE DIALOGUE: Learning from the Masters Volume V, the groundbreaking interview series that goes behind the scenes with fascinating, in-depth interviews with screenwriters Marshall Herskovitz (thirtysomething, The Last Samurai, Traffic), Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Billy Ray (Breach, Color of Night, Shattered Glass) hit the streets on October 23nd.

The acclaimed DVD series is available for order at www.thedialogueseries.com, major online retailers such as Netflix and Amazon.com, and at Passion River Films (www.passionriver.com) for $19.95 each.

In twenty-seven individual, 70 to 90 minute in-depth discussions, today's most successful screenwriters share their work habits, methods and inspirations, secrets of the trade, business advice, and eye-opening stories from life in the trenches of the film industry with veteran producer and industry executive Mike De Luca. Each screenwriter discusses his or her filmography in great detail and breaks down the mechanics of one favorite scene from their produced work.

THE DIALOGUE: Learning From the Masters, Volume V features the following screenwriters:

· Writer, director, producer Marshall Herskovitz is one of the most prominent figures in film and television. With partner Ed Zwick, whom he met while attending the American Film Institute, Herskovitz has created and executive produced the highly-acclaimed television shows thirtysomething and Once and Again, and written the film The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise. He served as producer on the films Traffic, I Am Sam and Dangerous Beauty, which he also directed. Here, Herskovitz delves into the mediocrity of the industry, the voices that writers hear in their heads and why it’s best to write first and ask questions later.

· Nia Vardalos took her one-woman play about the pitfalls of interracial marriage and turned it into her noteworthy debut screenplay for My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The film was a tremendous hit, becoming the highest-grossing independent feature and made Vardalos an overnight success, earning her nominations for Best Original Screenplay WGA and Academy Awards®. The Canada native also wrote and starred in the 2004 comedy Connie and Carla and is currently penning an adaptation to the Laura Zigman novel Piece of Work. In this candid and whimsical interview, she talks about how her experiences in the Second City comedy troupe helped her as an actress and a screenwriter, and how the unofficial “tell-the-Greek” word-of-mouth program had a hand in catapulting her movie to such great heights.

· Billy Ray has written or co-written the screenplays for Color of Night, Volcano and Hart’s War and also created the sci-fi series Earth 2. In 2003, Ray wrote and directed Shattered Glass, which was based on the true story of fraudulent journalist Stephen Glass. Most recently, he found himself back in the writer/director role for Breach, a story based on real-life FBI agent-turned-Soviet spy Robert Hanssen. In this intriguing interview, listen as Ray touches on his inspiration from movie soundtracks, taking acting classes, genius by osmosis and writing for The Jetsons.

Additional Volumes feature interview with such Oscar® winners and nominees like Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost), and Paul Attanasio (Quiz Show, Donnie Brasco); comedy masters like Peter & Bobby Farrelly (There's Something About Mary, Stuck on You); big-budget writers like Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (The Legend of Zorro, M:i:III) and Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich, In Her Shoes); and industry mavericks like Jim Uhls (Fight Club) and David S. Goyer (Dark City, Blade, Batman Begins).

About THE DIALOGUE: Learning from the Masters: More than two dozen of today’s most sought-after screenwriters are featured in an intriguing, original interview series hosted by veteran producer and industry executive Mike De Luca. The Dialogue: Learning From The Masters was created by screenwriter and entrepreneur Aleks Horvat and produced with his partner, personal manager Larry Shuman. Horvat, owner of theOffice, also created the Hollywood Creative Directory. Shot on location at theOffice, a popular creative workspace in Santa Monica (theofficeonline.com) that is a haven for screenwriters, the 27-part series offers provocative and in-depth one-on-one conversations with successful practitioners of the craft.
