13. Hello, my friend, and thank you!
I have been thinking about you and wondering about your trip to Italy. Talked with Joe about it, asked him if he'd heard from you. We're both hoping to hear all about it...:D

Thank you so much for the good wishes. They mean a lot, coming from you...:hi:

4. My God, almost 13,000 years old.
Oh, wait! I read that wrong. Thought you meant it was Rhiannon's 12,866th birthday, and so I started thinking well, it's nice that SOMEone's still keeping count, and then I was like, well, you start out as a Welsh witch, and you probably catch a lot of flack for that from the close-minded of your day, and then about a MILLION years later (12,000-plus, anyway) Stevie Nicks writes a hit song about you (my fave line? "Dreams unwind/Loves a state of mind..."), and then, 30-some years after THAT, you're being remembered on DU. I'd call that a full life.

Happy birthday Rhiannon, where 'ere ye may be, lass.

15. Everybody wonders about that number, think it's my day of birth, obviously not, LOL.
And I have often been accused of being a witch, or something similar ;), but I do love that song and have been a long-time fan of Stevie Nicks. I could tell you the real origin of my sn, but you can probably guess, since it's very DU-like. :-)

Actually, 12866 is my zip code, tacked it on when I found out that the name "Rhiannon" was already taken when I first registered (by someone who never posted even once!!!:grr:), and I wanted to get started, LOL. :D

And I love that line, too...

Rhiannon
Rhiannon rings like a bell thru the night
And wouldn't you love to love her
She rules her life like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover...

All your life you've never seen
A woman--taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven
Will you ever win...

She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark--
And when the sky is starless--

All your life you've never seen--
A woman--taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven
Will you ever win...

Dreams unwind.
Love's a state of mind.

*sigh*

Thank you for the kind wishes, my new friend, and for the very clever post. ;)

I'm home, despite driving in the dark and the rain, and I'm safe here, finally, with a dog on my lap, who shared a pizza with me, brought to me by my friend and fellow DUer, and thankful for lovely wishes from some very special friends. Thank you. :-)

I managed to survive this day...:wow:

19. Home listening to the rain
and sharing pizza with the crazy little dog in your lap sounds like a wonderful way to spend a birthday to me!

BTW, big news for me is that Cali will now sit in my lap sometimes when I haven't bribed him with treats. :woohoo: and it only took 2 years to get to this stage.

25. Well, I wouldn't wish my previous experiences today on anybody...
But things have settled down. I wish that I could send you a pic of the guys, all asleep, for once...:-)

I do have new pix of Jack that I've been meaning to send...:D

That is great news about Cali! But be careful what you wish for. Since it's been Jack and me, he has taken to falling asleep between my knees, so I can't get up, no matter what...:eyes::loveya:

27. At least
Jack doesn't weigh so much that if he jumps up on the foot rest of your recliner he makes the chair go down. lol

Maybe that's why Cali has decided to sit in my lap, he's tired of catapulting us both out of the chair.

30. Yes, but have you seen what little Jack does to the chair? LOL.
I probably already sent you this one, but he's been doing this again for the past couple of nights, running in circles and using the back of the recliner as a trampoline, LOL. I think that we need a new video of this, anyway, since when Al got this one of him, the house was a mess and there was a pedophile on the TV (Dateline NBC).:eyes:

And cats aren't stupid, LOL. It doesn't take them very long to figure out unpleasant results. Except that Huck and Tom never seem to relate their digging their claws into my leg with my screams... They were very glad to see me today.:loveya:

6. I am so sorry that I missed this last night, my friend!
I fell asleep early last night and had to get up earlier today to see Nick to finally deal with my taxes. *sigh* Plus, I stopped to see my mother, which I always regret, since I can't leave and don't want to blow her off... You know. :-( She wrote me a check, which was very nice, but I spent so long there that I had to drive in the dark, which you know I can't do. I saw Joe, who came with me to see Lori, and Al brought me dinner and I heard from Bob and my aunt and Dogster (Meneken and Sara share my birthday), so things are looking up, LOL. You, my friend, and my friends on DU are the best, so thanks so much for this very thoughtful thread. Thank you for remembering my birthday and for being such a good friend... I was pretty depressed, earlier, but you and DU always manage to cheer me up.:D

We had Beef Stew for 3 days, we have several bags of chicken stock and pasta sauce in the freezer. :D

Now, I'm sick of cooking for a few days. :P

ps- We *might* go to the Head of the Charles to see NMH race in a few weeks :)

24. I am planning to make the beef stew recipe, as well, LOL. And what you made sounds great!
Did you see the chicken stew recipe that I posted? Got it from The Food Network and made a few changes that those who reviewed it suggested, and it has always been a big hit for me. I should make it this week, since I'm getting rusty...;)

Yikes! I have never actually seen that race, but I know the term well. Sounds very cool.:-) Did you ever have "Mountain Day?" I was there when Ned Meaney would run from dorm to dorm, blowing a horn... :eyes: We all thought that it was pretty stupid, but it was a day off from classes...:woohoo:

26. Hahaha! Mountain Day!!!
Yes!

I very well remember climbing a mountain every year...Ah, memories. We were always devising ways to sneak off from the faculty and the student leaders to go get high. :P

I went to the Head one year, I think Sophomore year, we got lost getting back to campus on Sunday, came in after dorm closing at South Crossley, and got busted for 'smelling like cigarettes'

Yes, by my time, there were no more 'smoker rooms' at NMH...We were outlaws :D

28. Yes, LOL, certainly better than "Seating Day," but maybe you didn't have to endure that...
Think we've spoken of that before...:eyes:

We were just grateful to have a day off from classes, even if it meant climbing a mountain. Sitting there, every night doing homework, we always wished that the next day would be Mountain Day, yearned to hear crazy Ned Meaney, who still wished that it was the '40s, running about with his horn...

And I knew people who got busted for cigarettes. One girl I knew, ahead of me, got kicked out for smoking, but we all knew it wasn't cigarettes, like they said...:eyes:

My roommate was 18 our senior year and that's when they started those damn smoking rooms, cement walls in the basement with the doors pulled off of their hinges. I don't know what they expected to find, maybe smoking? LOL.:smoke:

But, of course, not only cigarettes were smoked there, and I could hang out with my roommate, since you had to do everything with "buddies," even talk on the phone...:eyes:

35. Well, I was in the last all female Northfield class,
though we did have co-ed classes. Things changed dramatically in the next couple of years, noticed when my brother went there not that long after me. For one thing, Gould, my dorm, became co-ed!:wow:

I have often wondered how many fellow alumnae turned out to be liberals, or are members of DU. I'd be willing to bet that there are quite a few of us, after that experience...:bounce:

BTW, here's my dorm class photo. I'm the one in the middle, a non-conformist even then...

38. Bwahahaha!!

Marquand was my dorm Freshman year...Then I moved over to Mt Hermon, to South Crossley, the female side of the other co-ed dorm. Hehe, 4 floors of 200 horny teenagers with only locked doors between them. I lived on the first floor, easier to sneak guys in and out of... :D

Why is that one chick holding a basketball?

But what I love about my birthday, and would miss, is the attention and kind wishes of friends, which means more and more, over time. Thank you, my dear friend.

Rhiannon:loveya:

p.s. One thing that I probably never told you was that I always hated getting older. When I turned 10, I refused to admit it for a long time, since I didn't want to admit to being two digets...

20. It absolutely is. Today is LoveMyCali's second anniversary on DU!
How stupid of me not to have mentioned that!:dunce:

I think that it was in 2005, my good friend and kindred spirit, who I survived the debacle of the 2004 election with, and to whom I had sent numerous DU threads over the years, finally registered with DU, in honor of my birthday, got a wonderful friend and fellow DUer to post a birthday thread for me so she could post on it and surprise me. One of the best and most meaningful gifts I have ever received. I will always remember both the sympathy and the gesture and be grateful.O8)

Thank you for the reminder.:hi:

And I owe you a PM, just noticed it recently and felt terrible that I missed it. My computer, especially e-mail, was totally messed up and it took several days and two computer techs that I happen to know (both Joe and Al) to straighten the damn thing out...:-(
