1. I hate that keyboard.
The split keys are a total pain.

I would much rather use a slightly larger model that comes with a full keyboard.

Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 11:35 AM by woodsprite
a stylus OR a small plugin keyboard that you can type on with both hands. I like it because it has a larger screen. I love laying in bed at night and surfing the web on it. It means I can be up there with hubby while he's flipping channels and my daughter is on my computer doing her homework or listening to Napster.

I have a friend who uses a Treo and he said it's good to download a program to allows you to turn off illuminated buttons, otherwise the charge doesn't last very long at all.

Congrats on your 23rd anniversary coming up - my 23rd wedding anniversary is in December and I'm hoping to get us both a flat screen TV to mount above the fireplace :)

3. Is it your anniversary?
Wow, 23 yrs. Congrats! :toast: Impressive, in this day and age....

I'm asking for an iPod for the holidays. I'm a bit behind in the tech curve.

5. Congratulations on your important achievement!
But it's "23rd anniversary", not "23 year anniversary". It's one of my pet peeves, not only because it's horribly redundant to have both "year" and "anniversary", but illogical as well: what anniversary celebration would actually last 23 years? I'm hearing "____-year anniversary" a lot more nowadays in the media and if it doesn't stop, I may go postal! Why do people say "one-year anniversary" instead of the shorter and eminently more reasonable "first anniversary", anyway? What's their compulsion? It's even worse when people refer to a "six-month" anniversary, because it's not an anniversary until you've reached a year.

When you achieve something you're proud of, it's important to reward yourself with a present, so I hope you enjoy your Blackberry.

12. I'm sure you did. I'm sure GWB runs the country just the way he wants to, too.
It's not a grammar thing, but a logic thing. And I stress that you're not the only one who (wilfully) makes this mistake; it's all over the media, and those people are actually paid to use the language, which makes it even worse. I've meant to bring this up on other threads, but I've never had the opportunity to do so till your thread, so thanks.

I do not take kindly to being publicly called out for petty grammatical miscues. Period.

24. I'm right about the other thing, too.
i did not call you out for a petty grammatical miscue. It wasn't a grammar issue: "23 year anniversary" is not ungrammatical, it's just redundant and illogical. Period. And if you'd just taken the time to read my posts in their entirety, you'd have noticed that I wasn't just coming down on you alone, but on all who use this construction.

In no way do I feel "superior" to you, unless you're just spoiling for a fight or something. I'm just frustrated and annoyed by this all-too-common usage, and this thread happened to intersect with my frustration at this particular moment. If you feel like shit, that's entirely on your head, because I wasn't trying to do that. Your intransigence has left me baffled and more than a little bit angry.

33. It is annoying,
to me, that you corrected KW's grammar or redundancy --- it is considered petty and impolite. That is a pet peeve of mine.

btw, being right does not make one a gracious guest but it sure as hell makes one a giant pain in the ass.

36. This is no longer about my original comment. It's no longer even about being right.
And it's most certainly not about your pet peeves. It's about the stubborn unwillingness to be right, which I find disturbing. Whenever someone points out one of my typos, or notices that a subject and verb don't agree, etc, I accept it as a golden opportunity for self-improvement. I don't go all pigheaded on him and refuse to correct myself.

Ah well, perhaps some people are above reproach and must not be criticized. I must remember that...

37. That's how I see it.
Lord knows, I'm far, far from perfect when it comes to grammar/punctuation. That's why if someone more knowledgeable about these things than I were to correct something I'd written, I'd consider that a chance to improve myself. Hell, for all I know, there could be mistakes in this post.

I'm not writing great literature when I post here...but I do want to put my best foot forward, as far as grammar and punctuation are concerned. And I would appreciate it if, I were wrong, to be corrected in proper usage. We're never too old or set in our ways to learn.

My parents celebrated their 57th this year. The reality for me is that for me to have a 57th anniversary, I'd have to live to be 100 (literally) and I'd have to marry a 20 year old man tomorrow.

28. Those things are dangerous! I cut down a fence post and killed a dogwood tree with one of those.
You've gotta be super careful with the string timmer-mower. They can take out good sized woody vegeatation and destroy things you didn't mean to destreoy (like specimen trees, fence posts, hoses, plastic jugs, etc.)

There are three wieghts of the string and then there is a attachment that's a cross between a circular saw blade and a chainsaw.
:scared:

That said, the DR field trimmer mower is AWESOME! ;)

35. My roomie has that phone
She *loves* it. So much so that she has named it.

And it's practically indestructible. She dropped it from a 2nd floor balcony, onto a concrete parking lot...and it got a tiny little scratch, but still works perfectly.

I'm thinking about getting a Curve though, the Pearl is just a little bit too small for me, and I did find the keyboard annoying, though roomie swears it's really easy to get used to.
