I have been Cable & TV free for 3 weeks now....ask me anything
I don't feel like I need to watch TV anymore. I kept turning the channel to the right wing press channels and they got me so pissed off that I wanted to shake one silly. My TV was broken by a kid that came over with a friend of mine and I haven't watched it in 3 weeks and I don't feel the need to watch it anymore.
Should I start a TV type of AA meeting?

6. Keep up the good work.
Over a year and a half for me. I still receive broadcast stations, but I forget to turn on the television during the limited times the news is shown.

12. So how's your blood pressure?
I would figure it would drop...
When 911 happened I didn't have a TV. I think that's one of the reasons I didn't go berserk like the rest of the country, because I didn't turn on the "24 Hour All WTC Disaster" channel like the rest of the country did.

Go to PBS.org and find your way to the Frontline page; from there you can get watch quite a few episodes of the show....including many award winning ones from years ago.

I also think that NOW is online and viewable in much the same way.

16. Congratulations
I'm not currently TV-free myself, but I have been and I remember what it was like. Especially the moment you realize you don't miss it at all. All of the shows you thought you couldn't live without somehow take on a much diminished importance. The hard part is getting through that initial period, when you don't realize it's an addiction and you don't believe you'll ever stop missing your favorites. But it is and you can and it's really not so bad.

I realized I was addicted in college when I HAD to stay up to watch David Letterman. I felt I couldn't miss his show. During a rare moment of lucidity I managed to perceive the pablum for just what it was and became horrified at the state of affairs that had grown subtly and insidiously around me. I gave up cold turkey. The extra hours of sleep did wonders for me.

Getting your TV broken is a rare and marvellous opportunity. Seize it and make the most of your freedom!

I'm currently struggling to live dairy-free and don't think I can manage to drop TV again at the same time.
