Deep in debt, about to be audited. The kids are screaming for gruel. I had to have it, though. As my late ftaher used to say: "In for a penny, in for a pound."

Was your spelling of "canon" intentional, or just typo?

One wonders...

11. A person with disposable income.
What kind is it? A friend of mine is looking for a turntable and has NO IDEA what to get... he wants a nice one though.

Not that he's going to spend THAT much... but... eh, thought I'd ask. :hi:

20. I have the MMF-2 and very pleased with it
I had $1000 to spend on a TT, amp, CD player and preamp. That was the cheapest audiophile TT I could find and for the money it sounds great.

29. Would a basic turntable work?
Sony sells one for $90 on Amazon -- it's the LX-250h, I think, and it's perfect for playing records -- not for DJing, though.

12. Am I hallucinating?
Some thread was asking about the definition of an "audiophile"? Said thread was locked, or something, and I wanted to respond! So I started this one? But now--now it's all gone. Did I just imagine that? Sorry. I'm obviously confused. I'm not drunk or stoned, or anything. No, I'd never spend $17,000 on a turntable. Sorry for the confusion. You can't be more confused than I am at this moment!

28. I remember an arguement on one audiophile website about cables
The guy was asking if he should upgrade his set of $2000 speaker cables to some $10,000 cables.
I may actually be lowballing those prices.

22. Some fun for YOU. For me an endless nightmare
Here I be. Sunny, sweet-dry-breezy pre-autumn day in Manhattan. Tappin' into the kool kats of DU for the first time in over a year and now... some kinda "Twilight Zone" experience that makes me wonder if my psycho-pharmacologist has got me on some weird meds where the brain just puts up an alternate reality on the eye-scan screen for a few minutes here or there.

A drug like that would be illegal, yeah?

Like wormwood.

33. No, I swear. My confusion is legit.
Honestly. Maybe I dove into some other DU thread by accident for a couple minutes? Or answered an urgent email and got side-tracked on-line? Admittedly, I'm kinda flakey these days, but I SWEAR that... oh, Christ, I dunno what to think anymore. Long as you kids are having some fun, though, eh? That's the DU Lounge I remember. Seriously, this is my first day back after a year, maybe more!

19. Now you need an exquisite valve amp
and a pair of high sensitivity loudspeakers to listen to it with.

Not to mention a new HOUSE to build around your stereo for acoustically perfect placement of the speakers and listening chair. No standing waves!

31. No valves in MY house. I saw that documentary...
Plus, I don't need a HOUSE. I've got 278 sq. feet of prime real-estatre right here in Manhattan. Only costs me $5000 a month.

You and your houses. Sheessh!

I bought a Bang & Olufson tt after going to a friend's party and watching his cat jump on top of his B&O. Never skipped! I think it was about $400 like twenty years ago. Perfect for the out of control crowd!
