He looks so straight-laced with that haircut and young features.

15. Conway Twitty... His death really hit me hard.
I think the first three albums I bought as a kid were Conway Twitty and/or Loretta Lynn. He's one of the voices I grew up on. Most people remember where they were and how they when Elvis or Lennon died. Conway's the one I remember hardest.

Here's one of his that just kills me, not the least because of my own father's tenuous health. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiClA4wJCzE&mode=related&search=

18. Not having been raised "country", it took me a while
...20 years in Nashville cured that. While there I met and shook hands with a few Big Names, and my musical horizons have vastly expanded.

Great link, BTW.

I don't know if they are all from Austin, but they seem more Austin than Nashville.

Guy Clark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQGjkBuMGAU

Junior Brown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl0mHO26Ffc&mode=related&search=

Lyle Lovette: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQRJMyJ4ko8

And this is a beautiful one from Tish Hinojosa, but a bad recording. If you can make out the words, it's worth listening to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbP1a44iKSQ

31. A newer song
can't find a youtube link
beautiful

Where have you been
Kathy Mattea

Claire had all but given up
When she and Edwin fell in love
She touched his face and shook her head
In disbelief she sighed and said
In many dreams I've held you near
Now at last you're really here

Chorus
Where have you been?
I've looked for you for ever and a day
Where have you been?
I'm just not myself when you're away

He asked her for her hand for life
Then she became a salesman's wife
He was home each night by 8
But one stormy evening he was late
Her frightened tears fell to the floor
Until his key turned in the door

Chorus

They'd never spent a night apart
For 60 yrs she heard him snore
Now they're in a hospital
In seperate beds on different floors

Claire soon lost her memory, forgot the names of family
She never spoke a word again
Then one day they wheeled him in
He held her hand and stroked her hair
In a fragile voice she said

Chorus

Where have you been
Ive searched for you forever and a day
Where have you been
Im just not myself when your away
Im just not myself when your away

lost

I didn't make this video, I was on the opposite side of the crowd, I'd gone to San Fran to stay with my best friend and see Gillian Welch at Stained Glass Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park. And this is one of my favorite of all songs ever too so it was perfect, I cried like a silly baby at how sweet it was.
