Please boycott Best Buy

Look, I'm a computer technician. As if my job's not hard enough...why on earth should I have to put up with a company which disparages my profession? If you don't know what I'm talking about, perhaps you have heard of their computer services branch, the Geek Squad? I mean, really. I don't know of any self-respecting computer technicians who would accept money to wear the slur of degradation on their person or their vehicle. Even as a technician not affiliated with Best Buy, I am highly offended by that broadbrush characterization.

Therefore, I choose to boycott Best Buy, and I would advise like-minded individuals to take a principled stand along with me. Anyone with me??

Especially with countless media articles saying how G.S. got caught for piracy, stealing peoples' movies and music from their PCs, no doubt personal info too...

Another big box store doing more than it should and then wondering why customers vanish (no money and/or no confidence)

People want me to work for the G.S. as well because of my strong record. I'd rather start my own business... pity the tax laws for SMBs are so more twaddle than legit.

30. I got to Best Buy for DVDs, and that's it.

I would never use Geek Squad, especially when 99% of the stuff they can do, I wind up doing myself. I would never pay someone $100 to reformat my system.

IF you had said the Geek Squad are posers, and not really Geeks at all and do, in fact, suck at what they do, I would have totally had to agree with you. But come on! Geeks are sexy. I married one. Why deny what you are?! EMBRACE IT! It's much more fun to just go with it.

have reclaimed that word (and the related ones, like nerd) proudly. Much like how many in the gay community have reclaimed the word 'queer' and use it for their own purposes.

You can't insult someone with a word when the word has been reclaimed by that group. :)

Which then brings into question the validity if not utter relevance of making certain words taboo in the first place.

If people can be told self-depreciating humor is wrong, then so is "reclaiming a word" because the word is often used simply for means of self-depreciating humor, which gets nobody anywhere in the end. Or so people are told.

34. In the end, I find most words to be silly things.

Especially the funny sounding ones like 'Plunk' and 'chunk' and... well, most words that end with 'unk'. :)

Although in this case, these words usually AREN'T used for self-depricating humor. Most who have 'reclaimed' such words have no problem saying "I'm a geek" in public. Or I could point to the 'We're here, we're queer' signs that you see at protests and parades. Or the more recent usage of GLBTQ, because if they added every sexual and gender orientation to the GLBT thing it would take up half a page. So they just use the Q to stand for everybody else. :)
