New Hampshire Upset: Grover Sweeps Primaries
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 06:29 PM by Robb

"...Me so happy!!!"

(DP) - In a stunning turnaround that has garnered him the nickname "The Comeback Fuzzy Thing", Grover has defied pundits and swept the New Hampshire primaries, situating himself well on the path toward an easy Democratic nomination.

"Me so happy!" screamed an exuberant Grover, enjoying a post-victory sandwich aboard his luxury yacht Big Bird IV. "...Me like to thank all the delegates, and especially to thank Oscar for his nice phone call."

Referring to the number 2 candidate Oscar the Grouch, who came in a distant second due to what was perceived to be an excess of anger, Grover said "Me think Oscar got bad press, but he was sponsored by the letter J and the number 3, so no one here's too surprised." Oscar telephoned Grover late Tuesday night to concede defeat, and offer his support in the coming weeks.

Oscar the Grouch (D, Garbage Can)

Coming in third place in today's primary voting was Cookie Monster, whose campaign slogan "That's Good Enough For Me" apparently found little traction with New Hampshire voters, who seemed to feel that "U" was for "unelectable".

the (fictitious) N.H. town made famous in Thornton Wilder's "Our Town"

:-)

Edit: Didn't want anyone to get hurt trying to find up-to-the-minute returns for Grovers Corners, so added "fictitious"!

7. Not to be confused with Grovers Mill, NJ
Where the Martian invasion force landed the day before Halloween, on Oct. 30, 1938.
