Agoraphobia can save you some $$$ on car insurance!
Just got off the phone with my agent...was PISSED :grr: because my premiums had gone up, even though my record is so clean you can use it for a sterile dressing. Rates went up statewide, so BOHICA...
:banghead:
'Splained her that I'm dealing with agoraphobia, which makes it difficult for me to go out, and a week where I drive 25 miles is a good week for me. Car spends about 98% of the time parked in the driveway...not a high risk for accident.
She then asked me if I drove less than 7,500 miles a year...I said DEFINITELY. That qualifies me for the SHORT MILEAGE DISCOUNT, which takes about $100 off my yearly rate. :woohoo:

I don't belong to any groups...AAA is only good in New York and another state which I can't recall, but you might want to ask your agent about affinity groups. Sometimes belonging to to a certain credit union or organization like that can bring your premium down too.

I didn't think to ask if Democratic Underground counted...

Hope this helps...

2. I don't drive, though for different fears. Still if I ever do, I will have to
remember this short mileage thing.

3. It's annoying that you need to ASK for it, but it is one of the discounts many insurers offer.
Less time on the road, less likely to be in an accident.
Here's a good article about ways to lower the cost (and your example is one of them):

Appreciate you putting that up!

Insurance companines won't volunteer information about "You can save yourself a bit by doing this..." :grr:
You have to come right out and ask them SPECIFICALLY.

Edit to add that if you are 55 and you take a Defensive Driving course, that will earn you a discount as well with some companies. But you HAVE to be at least fifty five for this one.
