EDIT: why would you post a thread asking people for their opinion, and then ridicule them for their opinion?

were, to me, very intense. The battle scenes were a little too realistic for me.

7. Aliens and Irreversible
Edited on Wed Aug-15-07 09:22 AM by MotorCityMan
Two VERY different films.

Aliens, once they go back to the alien planet, is incredibly intense. The scene where Ripley and Newt are trapped in room with the face huggers had me literally on the edge of my seat

Irreversible is a French film that is one of the most disturbing, intense films I have ever seen. Like Memento, the story is told backward. It is a very graphic film, also, with a rape scene that is unwatchable. The actress, Monica Bellucci, deserved a medal for appearing in it. The only reason I watched this one is that there was a controversy over the content. Being someone against ANY kind of censorship, I had to watch it to make up my own mind.

13. Fair warning, it is not a pleasant experience
I would NEVER say to anyone "Don't see this movie", just because everyone's tastes are so different (I thought Forrest Gump was overrated). I will give a warning, though, if it is warranted, and this movie is really not for everyone. There is a very graphic, brutal murder scene in it, also.

The controversy over the film, in my opinion, was justified. The dvd box cover even has a warning on it.

It's like when Seven came out. I woman I worked with at the time told me to go see it. She said while it's an excellent movie, it's very disturbing and it will bother you. It did. I kept thinking about it, so I ended up calling my best friend and we went and saw Showgirls, which I knew would be a so-bad-it's-funny type movie. It was hilarious and took my mind of Seven.

25. It was
I ended up fast forwarding thru it; it seems to go on FOREVER, and is too realistically done. As I said in my original post, the actress deserved a medal for her performance.

28. I liked both movies
Hell, I even liked Alien 3, which was pretty downbeat.

I orginally saw Alien in the theater in '79 when it first came out. I didn't know what to expect, and it scared the crap out of me. It was a very intense experience, especially that first viewing.

I always thought of Alien as more of a horror movie, in a sci-fi setting. Even though John Hurt's big scene has been seen/copied over and over (in fact, there is a similar scene in David Cronenberg's They Came From Within that predates Alien), it totally horrified me.

Aliens was much more an action movie with a very different feel to it.

First time I saw it was in a revival-type movie house. It was packed, and although most of the people there had probably already seen it, there were many times when you could have heard a pin drop.
