I can't sleep....Damnit. Up woefully late, for me...
My brain is on overdrive and not in a good way...Racing, yucky thoughts. I've been in and out of bed 3 times since 11. Sigh...

Anyone out there? x(

I'm surprised that thread is still around. I wrote it a while ago. It's good to see it still being kicked up there.

9. Well, maybe you can relate...
I know about your Wife's illness (G-d bless her). I realized, while laying in bed this evening, sleepless, that ever since my Mom was diagnosed with ALS about 3 weeks ago, I've been totally paralyzed. Not going out, not working, not doing a damn thing, if I can help it.

Sleep doesn't come easy to me, so I sit here for hours just...existing. But, I guess it's b/c I'm in fear of what's to come, and I worry that I'm not strong enough to handle it all. School begins again in 3 weeks, Senior yr in college, and I have no f'n idea how I'm going to do it. So, I'm panicked, I guess.

15. Yeah, I get that in many ways really - it sucks
When mom died I lost the anchor to my boat.

It was followed by a lot more death and then meeting my oldest son for the first time in 8 years, and then moving across country and now losing two jobs in one month.

Mom was the one thing I counted on in life. She loved me no matter what. And that cold December night, well she left me here all alone in some ways. I realized life was not forever, and faced my own mortality. If a woman like mom could die, then the world was a fucked up place.

I think I realized then, more than ever, that I am going to die as well. That I could get sick and end up in the hospital for months like she had done.

Even with good care, they could not save her. It just was what it was. And as she slipped away, I knew that I could control little in this world, except my own actions.

The world became a scary place. My mom, my best friend my whole life, was gone. And in the end, I knew that that is where I too was headed. No matter how good you are, no matter what you do in life - we all end up passing away.

And now, I am finally seeing what she knew all along.

Enjoy today, because tomorrow you may not be here. Screw the worry over bills, etc. The negative things detract from the joy you should be enjoying.

Life is not about money, credit scores, and the like. Life is about your kids, your spouse, your happiness. You get one shot at it all - and spending that time worrying about tomorrow won't help you at all.

My wife IS sick, and I cannot change her tomorrow. I can however enjoy her today.

And today may be all I have.

16. Wow, that's hard
I used to work with ALS patients, and it's hard to watch them have more and more trouble as time goes on. I can understand why you are apprehensive about what the future might bring. There's nothing anyone can say to make it easier for you, I'm sure. If I could say one thing though, and I'm not sure it will be much comfort -- you will have time to spend some more good times together, and make them really matter. Sometimes people don't get that with the people they love. I know it's not much, but it's something. Many ALS patients live for quite a long time. You have the advantage of knowing that every moment really matters.

My heart goes out to you. Hang in there. And by the way, they do make sleeping pills that aren't addictive and don't leave you with a hangover, and won't make you sleep walk or anything. Not getting rest when you are super stressed can be a vicious cycle. Sometimes a pill once in awhile can break the cycle.

Forgive me for giving advice if it's presumptuous to do so. It's just that I can relate a little bit, and my heart goes out you. Be well.

20. Sorry for being flip.
Illness is scary. I'm going out for smokes for a while, but I will be doing a late nighter tonight if you are still up later. I'm falling in love with the lounge.

17. Go check out the Perseid meteor shower!! They're peaking tonite
plus, it's a new moon tonite, so it should be perfect for viewing.

The best time to see them is between midnite and dawn on Monday am.

Make a wish! :hi:

22. I'd finally got so sick of lying awake at night I found a solution
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 06:50 AM by DS1
I wear my ass out on a bicycle for 90 minutes or so after work each day. Now I zonk pretty quick, wake up far less during the night, pants are getting looser and legs are turning into steel

100 miles in week one, a pittance for most riders, but not a bad start
