Why doesn't someone make a water cooler that also makes ice?
My fair city actually has water that exceeds govt standards for pollutants so bottled water is pretty much a given. I could just make ice in my freezer using bottled water but for reasons I'll never understand any ice cube that comes out of my freezer tastes like onions or something. Why the hell don't they make a water cooler that will also make ice? Especially if you could get it to make ice, dispense hot water, cold water and room temp water. Yeah, once we solve the rest of the problems in the world I think we need to get our best scientists on this problem. Really.

2. Probably not cost-effective

If either part breaks, then you're without ice *and* cold water.

As for your freezer, if you have an icemaker might I suggest you put a water filter on the line (it's pretty easy). ($20 at Home Depot or Lowe's)

If you don't have an icemaker, then try one on your faucet (even easier), and fill the ice cube trays from that. (~$50 at Costco, Home Depot or Lowe's)

Bottled water is a no-no, BTW (especially the 1-pint bottles). Horrible for the environment (the petroleum used to make the plastic, the cost of transporting bottled water--water is heavy). Refilling from your (filtered) tap is much better. :hi:

3. Ever consider the number of trees burned to make a charcoal filter?

6. I get 5 gallon jugs and use a cooler
we have a radium level double the federal limit. I was told that reverse osmosis is the only thing to make it safe to drink and those waste a lot of water.

8. Holy cow, I had no idea
Is there a lawsuit in the works? What part of Wisconsin is that? (my dad just moved to WI)

I know what you mean about the bad-tasting ice. My inlaws have no filter on their freezer, and the ice makes drinks taste horrible.

Sorry to hear about your water, that's awful.

11. every time we get a water bill
the city tells us they're working on the problem but I've lived here (Waukesha) for 15 years and they still haven't fixed it. I've just resigned myself to bottled water. It's enough of an issue though that we do get notification of the pollution with every water bill and when we list our real estate we have to fill out a special disclosure for the water.

13. Seems like a lawsuit would speed things up
Not that I'm a fan of lawsuits, but geez, 15 years.

It's one thing to have bad-tasting water, and having to use a Brita filter or Pur filter. It's another to require reverse freakin' osmosis for safe drinking water.

Cripes, my dad lives in Elkhorn. I'm going to have to look into this for him.
