HospitalFest 2007! (WARNING: graphic pics)
So my husband had acute appendicitis.

I asked, but the surgeon said that I could not have the appendix. Alot of people in the room looked at me very strangely. They did agree to take pictures, though!

I don't know what they were hoping to capture here:

Appendix coming out:

MrLaraMN is on a morphine drip and doing well. He either comes home tomorrow or the following day.
As tomorrow is our anniversary and I know he didn't get me a card, I guess I have to give him a free pass. I told him next year (our tenth) hospitalization will not be regarded as a valid excuse.

1. That is one HOT looking appendix....
Great that he had the surgery. I gather that it did not rupture, because if he's coming home that quickly, it could not possibly have. Because he'd have peritonitis.

Good luck with him and happy anniversary.

2. Nope! Didn't rupture!
They were surprised he wasn't in that much pain. It's a good thing he didn't wait until he was!

3. Yes, it is....
Someone at work had his appendix rupture a few years ago. He spent two weeks in the hospital and another four at home recovering. Fortunately, he was one of the many senior vice presidents at the company and was allowed all the time he needed to recover.

My company is heavy on the chiefs and light on the Indians, of which I am one.

25. Yep, been there!
2 weeks in hospital...not fun at all.

I thoroughly do not recommend waiting until your appendix bursts before seeking medical attention.

I can also weigh in on the fact that the old advice of "take an aspirin and we'll see how you are in the morning" should not be applied to suspected appendicitis.

9. Thanks!
The nurses kept asking him all day if he was in much pain, and he complained foremost of the pain of being hungry and unable to eat.

If he's home tomorrow, I'll have to think of something special to make him for dinner.

5. Yay morphine!
That would make an appendectomy worthwhile!

Seriously, glad he was diagnosed and they got it in time. A ruptured appendix is seriously bad news.

Jeez. Cheap, humourless bastards. When I was a kid the other kids got to take their tonsils home.

Edit: I mean they got to take their tonsils home in a jar after a tonsilectomy.

32. I should have asked for pictures.......I had mine out the day after Election Day 1996
Got sick as a dog Election Day at about 10 AM, went home, thought I had some sort of Stomach thing, fever, vomiting, then the pain kicked in. Told my wife, as she went out to go to Yoga that evening that she may need to drive me to the Hospital when she got home. Went to Fairfax General Hospital, sat in the waiting room and vaguely remember election coverage. Got a CT scan, I would have protested, but I was out of it....Had surgery that Morning, the Boss brought work for me to do that evening, in the Hospital bed, I was kinda thankful he did. The Anesthesia had the effect of blocking my normal fluid evacuation procedure, so I had a catheter, great if you're too lazy to get up to pee, but just a miserable thing to have to carry around.....

It was the thing that finally got me into the ex-smoker camp.....
